Getting concerned about the possibility of losing all of my valuable files on my laptop, I recently tried Willow Software's Backup to DVD/CD Made Simple, but I found it to be anything but simple! During the restore process it doesn't recognize that your backup set consists of multiple DVDs/CDs, and even when you tell it there are additional disks, it requires confusing back and forth disk-changes!

I've come to this forum in order to get some decent advice. Since my laptop has a CD/DVD burner, I'd rather backup to CD/DVD than to an external hard drive. Do any of you do that? If so, what software are you using and how does it handle multiple disks (especially during restore)?

Assuming you talking about backing up -- *precious* things you may have on your laptop --- NOT the O/S .

If you use 3 or 4 DVD+RW -- you can label one Software , next one Music, next one Pictures, next one Personal Things...

Burn to each one whatever folders you want to preserve. A DVD+RW can be erased and re-written then its only a matter of keeping things up to date on each DVD.

I have a folder on my drive that I call "" To put on Disk "" -- in it during the week , I place a copy of what i want to preserve... and when I have time I cut/paste this to my DVD+RW's --

You are the only one that knows what is important to you and how much you have ; so you may not need 3 or 4 DVD+RW -- or you may need more !

If it's a total backup you looking for -- well Nero has a good option and not many people in here are complaining about it !

Yes, I am talking about a dedicated application for backing up and restoring my files to/from DVD. I want something that's completely reliable and relatively easy to use.
