I have 2 DVD burner drives in my pc. A pioneer DVR-105 and a Pioneer DVR-110D. I installed the 110D tonight to do dual layer discs. The 110D came with Nero software. When I access nero to do anything with the new drive, the blue screen comes up saying I have a hardware error...the infamous blue screen of death. The device manager hardware tabs say both drives are working fine, and both drives function as DVD ROM. However, there is a problem getting it to work as a burner. I don't care if my old burner (105) works as a burner anymore- I'd just use the new one. Can I make the old burner just a DVD Rom instead of a burner too? Is that my problem? I just want to upgrade from a burner to a dual layer burner, but keep both DVD drives in instead of having a cd drive and my new dual layer drive.

XP, 2.6 Gig, 1 Gig Ram, Dell Dimension 8200

Remove Nero completely and reinstall. I ran into this once after installing a new drive. You should do a clean reinstall by using Nero's clean tool:

Make sure you have your Nero serial written down before starting the clean process.

nexstep,
You might just double check and make sure the drive on the end of the IDE cable is set for Master and the next one in is set as Slave..

Hi there,

As mentioned in the past, Dell loves Cable Select !

I own a Dell Dimension 8400 and have tons of Dell Optiplex GX270 at work.

Using Cable Select seems to work real well.

Tried to boot some drives in MASTER mode, man it just doesn't like it !!!

Set to Cable Select, poof no problems.
