has anyone successfully backed up this movie? when i use shrink to encode it, it stops at 1% and the error message says failed to read file E and incorrect function. Can someone please give me step by step instructions to successfully back it up. My trial for anydvd is now up also.

Don't think shrink can handle this one by itself - has macrovision's rip guard on it. I used AnyDVD and Clone - not a hitch. You might want to invest in AnyDVD - aD members are getting a discount.
Try dvd fab decrypter.
Here's a link for others who had a problem and how they solved it:

Here you go:

A free alternative is dvd fab decrypter - rip with that then run thru shrink.

AnyDVD & Clone shouldn't interfere w/ Nero 7. I both both the progs w/ Nero 6 and no problems so I'm assuming the same goes for 7.

I got a copy from a rental just to try it out. I used AnyDVD and Shrink and it worked out fine, on my Pioneer 106D.

After I watched the movie, I actually liked this movie as well.

To burn or not to burn, there is no question.

@Bestmiler
Not a problem.

@BurnMafia
Ummm you should only be backing up the original you own. Discussing & backing up rentals is a no-no.

I am trying to back up my edition of The Great Raid, but DVD Shrink is giving me some problems. I ran it through DVDFab Decryper and that went okay. When I open up DVD Shrink I keep getting this error:

DVD Shrink encountered an error and cannot continue.
Invalid data in file "D:\temp/DVD\VIDEO_TS\VTS_01_1.VOB"
Overlapped I/O operation is in progress.

Any ideas?????

"The Great Raid" has the new Macrovision RipGuard Protection. You'll need VobBlanker to "blank" out and "filter" those junks (bad/protected sectors), then once VobBlanker is done processing, you can open up DVD Shrink (click on Open Files) or Nero Recode 2 (click on Import) and continue on with your usual transcoding/shrinking process.

<> rip the movie using DVD Decrypter via MODE, File F (you will see a warning message from "Brute Force" saying: there's nothing for Brute Force to crack, just click "OK" and you should be fine). Once you're done ripping, close DVD Decrypter.

<> make a new folder called NEW_GREAT RAID and a sub-folder VIDEO_TS under "NEW_GREAT RAID" from your hard drive. Now Exit out.

For those that are familiar with my method using VobBlanker, below is what you need to do and I guarantee that you'll have a "successfully working full disc". And of course, I "BLANK" out those 2 annoying "FBI Warnings" sh!t out too, if you follow the steps below.

**once you open up VobBlanker do this:

<> set your INPUT --> browse your VIDEO_TS file that was ripped by DVD Decrypter earlier, then click OPEN
<> set your OUTPUT--> browse to your NEW_GREAT RAID, VIDEO_TS folder

<> under "Title set" double click on VIDEO_TS.VOB, under "Language, # PGCs, Ini Size" click on 14, it should display PGC 1 --> 14, now "BLANK" out all PGCs, EXCEPT PGC 3 only and click OK.

<> click on VTS_01_*.VOB, double click on PGC or TTN # 1, now you should have 1 --> 26 Cell, BLANK out Cell #1, #2, #3 (you will see a message saying: there is one cell already in use, a new VobId/CellId will be use, click OK) #4 and #26, click APPLY.
<> Now BLANK out PGC 02 and PGC 03

<> click on VTS_04_*.VOB, and BLANK out PGC 05

<> now click on PROCESS and sit tight until VobBlanker filter out and blank those junks out -- it should be only 10 - 15 minutes only.

Once VobBlanker is done, you can import or load your newly created folder into DVD Shrink or Nero Recode and follow your usual shrinking process. That's it... easy as sippin' on some Vodka.

Y'all should be just fine with the above steps, let me know if y'all run into any issues. Good luck and Happy New Year!!!

As VobBlanker is about to finish I get "Error reading input VOB: Unsyncronized" Anyone know what is causing this error? Thanks

Ditto on the "Error reading input VOB: Unsyncronized" I tried it 4 times; each with that error. I set it up step by step, just like alkohol listed it.

DVDFab (free version) worked like a charm & is by far the easiest decrypter out there! It worked with & WITHOUT AnyDVD.

AnyDvd is nice, but is it worth the $ just to eliminate the previews?

I like to copy 100% free of charge!

You can avoid all the above Vob problems by simply burning the 'main movie.' Used DVD Fabdecrypter to save it to hard drive, then choose 're-author' in DVD Shrink clicking on title 1 I think it was [or whatever file is 2 or more hours;-]... With completed ISO file of the main movie, you can burn it using DVD Decrypter ...

Same goes for 'The Brothers Grimm' - Burn the main movie only for no VOB error problems...

Hey Alkohol, I tried following what you said to do, but I guess I am just an idiot. I am in VOB Blanker. Already blanked the VIDEO_TS.VOB file as you stated. I am running into problems when I go into the VTS_01_*.VOB file.

first of all I only have 16 cells, not 26. Then when I go to blank out PGC 1, I get the following message: "The selected PGC 1 has cell commands and/or cell buttons. Blanking may produce a non-working menu. Do you really want to blank it?

What am I doing wrong? I just can't seem to get this one to work no matter what I do.

Thanks for any help you can offer.
