First off, DVD Shrink isn't a burning program. Free burning programs include DVDDecrypter and imgburn. For programs like Shrink there is Recode and something else that I can't remember. But for something that just removes encryption there is DVDFAB, DVD43, FreeDVD, DVDDecrypter. But why are you giving Shrink up, what is wrong with it?

I am having problems with DVD Shrink too. after using the program successfully for years, now each time i use it it tells me i'm out of memory. i clean up my disk, freed up half my storage drive, ran defrag. nothing made it work, it always said i needed more memory.
ran the dvd thru dvdxcopy (with anydvd) and it burned, no problem.
so i uninstalled DVD Shrink and reinstalled it but it still didn't work. i really like DVD Shrink. any one have any ideas on what i can do to make it work again? i use hp 751n, 1.8 GHz Pentium 4, 736 MB of RAM. windows XP, 70 gigs of storage, 35 of which are free.

The "out of memory" you are getting is from a new protection used on some of the newer dvds (I know Madagascar is one). There is nothing wrong with your DVD Shrink. You need to check out AnyDVD and/or vobblanker to back-up some of these movies. There are plenty of posts on this subject. Good luck...

Its an extra step but you could use decryptor first in file mode and then use shrink. That would get passed it. Or I highly recommend that you use decryptor file mode and then use rebuilder. Very easy to use and well worth the wait.

As far as free programs go, it's very difficult to beat DVDShrink. It is a fantastic program. I too might suggest using DVDdecrypter in file mode and rip to the hard drive first. Then use shrink.

DVDFab decrypter is a great ripper as well.

come on people, don't give up on the great shrink just that easy, and extra 15 to 20 minutes running the ripped files(decrypter or fabdecrypter) thru a free software called vobBlanker will allow shrink to do its magic as usual.

http://jsoto.posunplugged.com/vobblanker.htm

Nero Recode2 or Shrink using deep analysis and AEC/ fabdecrypter or anydvd running in the background/ IMGBurn to burn/main movie only mode= perfect.

livia,

I see a number of threads with people looking for free programs to backup there dvds. What still works for me is Shrink and Decrypter, along with DVDFabdecrypter on some of the newer one's.

Before using FABDecrypter, I would suggest making a folder called something like "Fab Movies", and use that folder to put your movies in when you rip with FABDecrypter. That way, when you open Shrink you can select your movie you just ripped with FABDecrypter by going to "Fab Movies"; "DVD"; and select "video".

Here is a great guide for using Fab decrypter.

http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/backup%20with%20DVDFABDecrypter,S...

Follow this step by step and you will have your backup.

Cheers.
