as many members know, i have been stockpiling my Verb & Ritek dvd+r DL media as of late, but, got my paws on 2 pieces directly from Japan on the NEWEST of Mitsubishi Kaguku Media overseas...these are the newest of the 8x rated (maximum speed) on dvd+r DL media~ :)

here is how they identify using dvd identifier

Unique Disc Identifier: [ DVD+R-DL:MKM-003-000 ]
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Disc & Book Type: [ DVD+R DL ] - [ DVD+R DL ]
Manufacturer Name: [ Mitsubishi Kagaku Media ]
Manufacturer ID: [ MKM ]
Media Type ID: [ 003 ]
Product Revision: [ Not Specified ]
Blank Disc Capacity: [ 4,173,824 Sectors = 8.55 GB (7.96 GiB) ]
Recording Speeds: [ 2.4x and 3.3x-8x ]

these are insanely expensive over in Japan, much more than what WE here in the U.S. think is pricey for $2.00 each~ :) it's closer to $10 each after conversion rate from Japanese Yen to American dollars~

anyways, i don't have a burner that will CONSISTENTLY burn a dvd+r DL disc @8x, but my Benq 1640 gets pretty close...this is just for testing purposes of course...i keep my DL burns @2.4x or 4x just to be safe~ :)

anyways, just wanted to let everyone interested in the dvd+r DL market to be on the lookout...i only have 2 pieces of these, once the Benq dw-1650 is released here in the U.S. and i get my hands on one...i will burn this bad boy @8x just to see how well it fairs in quality tests :P

in the meantime, i stick with what works for me...the 2 dvd+r DLs i use are in my sig. w/ appropriate media ID coding...

happy holidays all and merry christmas from "the doc" to everyone @ AfterDawn~ :)

kivory666.... You are slightly behind the power curve on this one. What you actually have is the Verbatim DVD+R DL MKM-001-000. It is manufactured in Singapore and is of the Advanced AZO Dye. Presently locally available at Best Buy at $21.99 for a 10 pack spindle. They are rated up to 6X speed with a compatible high speed DVD+R DL drive. Personally I wouldn't burn them over 4X. Verbatim recommends a 2.4X burn on their packaging. Happy holidays.... CIAO

Hey Doc, where can I get those New Verb Dual Layer: MKM003 ? I can burn the ones I got at Best Buy:(MKM001)FOR $19.99+ tax for 10, at 6x max & good quality, I prefer 4X though. but I haven't seen the new ones you mentioned anywhere. You could let me in on where I can find those? Maybe.

@bunnyrip

well, as stated in the initial post, i only got myself 2 pieces...they were sent to me by my uncle that lives in Japan~ after my cousin told him that i was a dvd-burnin freak! :) so, i'm not real sure WHERE else you could obtain them here in the States... :)

my whole point of starting this thread was to inform everyone that is currently interested in the DVD+R DL market to be aware of some NEW DVD+R DL coming out soon~ :)

i appreciate your genuine interest and will let you know personally via PM if i can find them available for sale here in the United States...but, at this point in time, i have yet to find ANY U.S. retailers (online or brick & mortar) that carry these particular ones...

seems like everyone and their moms' carry the MKM001's that people use here with great/good success...but, these NEW MKM003s are not even available here in the U.S. yet...i got these overseas...

Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas bunnyrip, will let you know once i seem them available...

I have a Benq 1640 (OEM) works very well with Verbatim DVD+R DL at 6x speed. I m using clone dvd to copy lenthy movie to DVD-9. Then engine can be either internal engine or Nero engine.

I just update the firmware from Benq.com. The published date is Dec. 23 2005. The update was successfully.

http://support.benq.com/front/BenqMain.asp?MenuHead=128&ShowType=...

Lately, I bought memorex DVD+R DL 2.4x at office depot. It was 15 pack for $25. I would like to have 1 to 1 copy without compression.

But, the clone dvd does not work well with this memorex DVD+R DL. Here is the message:
Filed to burn the disk, please have a try to switch burn engine, or create ISO file first then burn with the OEM DVD burn software.

I have select bout internal engine and Nero engine. I still got the same message.

I also down loaed qsuite from benq.com. The test from qsuite indicate the DVD+R DL does not work at the 2.4x speed.

Does any one know what I should do to have 1 to 1 copy?

hi limingy,

i have stated in MANY other posts of mine that it SEEMS like the "other brands" that use the RitekD01 coded media seem to NOT PLAY WELL with many different burners... :)

i have had nothing but success using my Ridata RitekD01s, but i have a few seasoned veterans in the burning game that HAVE used memorex, fujifilm, dynex, etc. with the RitekD01 coding with VERY POOR results~ i don't know exactly what is up with the quality control on Ritek SOLD media to other companies for rebranding and public sale; but i have come to the conclusion, at least among my peers that i compare "notes" with, that MANY problems arise with the DVD+R DL RitekD01 coded media IF IT IS NOT FROM RIDATA~ :) this is ONLY A PERSONAL OBSERVATION among me and my close peers that have 1,000+ burns under their belt and i KNOW i can be confident in ruling out "other factors" or "user error"~

as to the Benq 1640, i have that drive as well and i've noticed that this particular drive LOVES the Verbatim DLs, so after my first few Verb burns on the Benq, i have STUCK WITH VERBATIM ON THIS DRIVE, exclusively, NO ERRORS, FLAWLESS 1:1 BURNS...no worries~

i always stick to "what works well for me"...if it ain't broke, don't fix it as the saying goes....

Benq 1640 + Verbatim DVD+R DL media = 100% success rate~ FOR ME

i have no need to "try" the Ritek DL media on the Benq cuz it's pointless for me...i have something that works flawlessly in my Verbatim DLs..so, why change?

i think this Benq drive has a particular "liking" to these Verb DLs too, some drives "like" some media "better" than other drives...whether that's dependent on firmware or not, who cares?

i'm using BSOB firmware on MY Benq-1640 (which is the same as yours, dated 12-23-05)...i've got about 110 burns so far on Verbatim DVD+R DL media with 100% success..not a SINGLE coaster in over 10 packs (i buy the Verbs in a 10-piece spindle and i've gone through 10+ spindles already last month) :)

so, my recommendation to you on that Benq 1640, STICK WITH THE Verbatim DLs...Memorex is a "dirty word" in MY HOUSE, so i wouldn't even consider buying them EVEN IF THE MEDIA ID CODING IS RITEKD01...

whereas SOME people base EVERYTHING on media ID coding...this can and HAS varied to a great extent with my own personal tests and the tests of my peers have concluded the same thing...

bottom line: JUST BECAUSE THE MEDIA ID CODING IS IDENTICAL on 2 separate different companies media (rebranded and sold as memorex in this case), DOES NOT MEAN they are identical in quality.

i can argue this point, from MY OWN findings/conclusions and the results of my trusted peers till the cows come home, but it's not worth it...just believe me when i tell you the "bottom line" from above... :) i've taken the "guesswork" out of it already based on MY OWN tests, if the memorex DLs do not work for you, even if they are the RitekD01 coded ones...it's because the quality is NOT THE SAME as the Ridata RitekD01s that I have used (60+) with excellent results~ no "coasters" yet to date (that were not MY OWN FAULT) :)

consistency is KEY here in burning...stick with what works...and in YOUR case, with the same drive as me, use the Verb DLs and you shall be happy~

hehe aabbccdd,

gotta use "what works well for YOUR system and setup"...i don't have any plextor drives, so i have no clue~ but if Ritek don't work well for Plexies, as you stated, i can't argue that as i don't have a Plexie~ :)

gotta love my Taiyo Yuden army~ :)

@Doc.

Sorry I'm late on this buddy, but this is great news. It's good knowing that MKM is going to launch their finest DL product ever with 8X compatible, I sure am, definitely is going to try when it's out on the market. I would still burn with at least 4X when it comes to DL media though.

Hi Doc,

what kind of quality scores are you getting on those DL verbs burned on your benq when you scan them? At 2.4x with my 1620 pro I'm getting about 95% pretty consistently using 6x rated verbatim DVD+R DL's. At 4x the scores drop off pretty bad down into the mid to upper 70's.

@alkohol~ ;) it'll be sweet when they're readily available..i still have those 2 MKM003s in the jewel cases they came in...they're far too precious in MY eyes to use~ LOL...too expensive to chance the "coaster" on since my uncle paid a pretty penny for them...

@mort

really depends on WHICH burner i burn the Verbs on. on my Benq 1640, i THINK it burns @4x or even faster with quality scores of 97 or higher EVERY TIME....on my Sony dru-710a, same drive alkohol uses, i burn them @ 2.4x...reason i do it this slow, which is RARE for me, is that i've noticed on my various liteon drives, on DL media, slower IS better...i feel it's very much drive dependent with DL media...some drives will BURN THEM FAST with excellent results (benq 1640 is a definite example and my nec burns them quite quickly too w/ good results) while others, MY various liteons and my pioneer get better quality scans at more "standard" slower speeds~ :) WHY this is the case? i have no idea...it just IS~ :)

so, with that being said, i think firmware plays a VERY VITAL ROLE when it comes to DL media...i always make sure to keep up with the latest firmware on ALL my drives, no matter how old they may be... :)

it's weird as on my Sony 710a, which is a rebadged Liteon 1633S, i've noticed on ONE particular burn @4x on the Verb DVD+R DL, the quality score was below MY avg...like a 94-95 or something...i'm so used to seeing 97+ scores on ALL my Verbs i think i was somewhat shocked...that's why i scaled the speed back down to 2.4x...just being cautious i guess~ the next disc in the spindle i burned it @2.4x speed and got my "usual" 97 quality score again...

so, bottom line...DL media, at least FOR ME and my various setups, is dependent on the drive being used and slower/faster speeds accordingly...i think my Benq 1640 is the ONLY drive that consistently burns @4x or higher with excellent results...while i can attain almost identical results on my Sony dru-710a/Pioneer dvr-109, i just need to burn a bit slower :) somewhat interesting huh?

ya live and learn, as i've always said so many times and recommend to people on here...FIND WHAT SPEED works BEST FOR YOU and your own individual setups/drives/burners...takes a lil experimenting, possibly a few coasters here and there...but, NOTHING proves a point BETTER than PERSONAL EXPERIENCE through trial and error~ :) if you never fall, then you will never be able to pick yourself up and improve upon and correct the mistakes you have made in the past...it's a learning process ALL THE TIME, no ONE setup/strategy is perfect... :)

but, GOOD QUALITY MEDIA IS A MUST...if you're not dealing with or using the best, might as well quit now and go jump off a bridge cuz crappy media isn't even worth the cheap dye it's made from~ :0

i'm going to stick with these Verbatim MKM's...these are even better than my Ridata RitekD01 ones...use what yields the BEST results and in the DL game, Verbatim is #1 HANDS DOWN~!

docTY~
