how can i improve the picture quality on my burned dvds for a HD tv??

Quality isn't going to be any better than the original, and DVD is not high def... The best thing you can do until Blu Ray or HD DVD hits the mainstream is don't compress your movies (use dual layer media, however, a lot of movies can be burned to single layer uncompressed if you backup "movie only"), use good media (taiyo Yuden and Verbatim are tops), and find an optimal burn speed for your setup (TY burns best at 8X with my setup)... If you ARE going to compress, DVD Rebuilder with CCE is unrivaled!!! Personally, I use Recode2 down to 75% compression level and RB/CCE for backups requiring more compression than that. I view a 52 inch widescreen HDTV....

The easiest way is to use less to no compression or use a dual layer disc. Or you can use dvd rb and CCE. Which program do you normally use? Some (recode & Shrink) have an option for deep analysis which will improve the quality.
