Burning a DVD (easy to question)

This morning I was trying to burn a movie on 699mb to an DVD+R Disc. But when I was going to press t 'burn' button the movie was 4,8gb large, and my discs only is 4,5gb. The question is... WTF?!

DVD's are usually bigger than the standard single layer disc. You don't say what software you are using, but there are a variety of ways of doing it. Depending on your software you can strip out audio streams etc., and trailers that you don't want, and/or compress the files. If you are as new at this as it sounds (and I didn't think anyone actually knew less than I do :-) ) - do yourself a favour. I started a few months ago, and I have found CloneDVD2 - with Any DVD - dead easy to use and so far (crossed fingers) almost infallible! You can get both on a free trial from SlySoft, and they're relatively cheap if you find they do the job for you. I have two dual layer burners, but using this software I can save a fortune on disks as many films, without all the rubbish you don't want anyway, fit easily on to single layers with little loss of quality (and you aren't likley to notice the loss anyway).

Or you can always try DVD Shrink... I used it a few times and it's brilliant...

But by all means if you can get hold of Clone DVD2 for the ripping/burning, and AnyDVD to remove the CSS protection, you are well on your way. They aren't very expensive either.

Another one you might want to consider is DVD Decrypter, dead easy to work with and it's freeware as well.

Man, there's loads of choices, Alcohol 120%, Nero... Spend some time around AfterDawn to learn a bit about this, then make your own choice.

But regardless of the software you get, make sure you invest properly on decent media!

Sorry I forgot to say what software I use.... It's Nero 7.

P.S. I'm not allways sutch a noob... I just had a bad day, thats all:P
