I keep getting cyclic redundancy check errors when attempting to back up my copy of Madagascar.
Can anyone help?

Your crc error is most likely because of the encryption. Usually it's a bad/scratched/or dirty disc. Make sure that disc is clean.

You'll need AnyDVD by slysoft. It's a background ripper and it helps DVD Shrink pull off the newer encryption. I had to use it for madagascar,as DVD Shrink couldn't do it alone. You can get a free trial here:

Very easy to use, Just activate it and make sure the little red fox icon is in the lower/right corner utility tray.No extra step needed after that. Then try ripping again. This is the only program that I purchased.With DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter no longer updated,this program helps out immensely.

Good Luck!

Yep. That's why it is nice to back them up,put away the original and let the little tykes destroy the hell out of them.

I've got no kids,but after seeing what my nieces and nephew did to my lil brothers dvd's-very ugly!

Getting harder to figure out some of the CRC errors. You'll see them:

New movie releases-courtesy of sony arccos
Older movies-fingerprints/scratches
Bum factory presses.Lots of them around here.
Peeps trying to re-rip other peeps backups-Too many errors:burned too fast/poor quality media/putting more than 4360 mbs on them/poor quality burners.

If you run into that crc error again,just give a quick glance to some AD threads with the title of the movie. Madagascar has quite a few huge threads on it,so you know something is up with the encryption. I can't recall how many times a newb posts a thread where they can't rip a certain dvd and swears there is a new type of super encryption on it. Most of the time it is a bad disc.

@saugmon

What's up buddy? It's not so easy to identify those CRC errors anymore...but I always start out with the dirty, scratched discs.

I clean every disc before I rip them. Some peeps even clean their brand new blanks before they burn them. That's a little too extreme for me. I try to give them a good looking at before they go into my drives.

I've backed up some nasty dvds,and a couple dvds that were barely even scratched wouldn't rip. Here's one of my buddies that I couldn't believe that I got it to rip using little old DVD Shrink and nero:
