I got an External DVD Burner for Christmas and I am having some problems. I am using Nero Express, DVD Shrink and DVD Fab Decryptor. When I use DVD Fab to rip a movie onto my hard drive, everything works great. Picture, sound and all options come across. But when I use DVD shrink and Nero to burn movie onto blank DVD, the video and options come across, but no audio. Why? Any help, advise or suggestions would be great. I have tried numerous times, but can not get it to work. The video I am trying to back-up is Star Wars: A New Hope.

I don't know if this could be the problem or not but maybe try swapping your blank disc's around from let's say DVD-R to DVD+R if you have a dual format burner. See if that helps also use top grade media and burn at low speed, try these quality issues.

I have tried burning to a DVD+R disc and a DVD RW disc. I have not tried the DVD-R disc. If I try a DVD-R disc and it still does not work, do you have any other suggestions?

The type of DVD's you use will not give you this problem nor will changing media type solve it.

How are you using shrink, are you copying the whole movie or are you reauthoring?

Are you using the burn with Nero option in DVDshrink, or are you using them seperately?

If you are using them seperately, how are you choosing/setting up Nero to burn the files to DVD?

Until I can get the copy to work correctly, I am just coping the whole movie. No re-authoring.

I am using the burn with Nero option with the DVD Shrink, I think. I go into the DVD Shrink and click on Back-up and follow the instructions on the screen.

A friend of mine thought maybe something was wrong with the set-up of the burner and the setting for the audio. Could this be the case? When I installed the burner, it is external, I just plugged it into the computer and windows figured out what the new hardware was.

Any help or suggestions is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Just to be clear, you state:
"When I use DVD Fab to rip a movie onto my hard drive, everything works great. Picture, sound and all options come across. But when I use DVD Shrink and Nero to burn movie onto blank DVD, the video and options come across, but no audio."

After using DVD Fab to rip the movie files (whole movie) to your HDD, your playing the files off the hard drive and all is well there?, but when you burn your backup to DVD on the external and then play the backup on the external you get no audio?

First make sure in "audio properites" that the master volume and wave volume are not set too low(slide to half way), I've played audio files from an external(usb 2.0) with no problem having done nothing special other that plug and play. Play the backup you made on and internal DVD drive or a set top player, if the copy plays ok then there may be something wrong with the external drive's ability to produce audio. Read the manual for setup and operation.

your statement-"After using DVD Fab to rip the movie files (whole movie) to your HDD, your playing the files off the hard drive and all is well there?, but when you burn your backup to DVD on the external and then play the backup on the external you get no audio? "

my answer-Yes

When you say "Audio Properties", do mean the propers that you manipulate within the DVD Shrink?

Thanks for the suggestion. I will try that when I get home.

No, goto control panel-->sound and audio devices, click on the advanced button and check settings. Leave shrink alone, if you're ripping the whole movie you're getting everything(extras, subtitles, all audio selections).

Try playing an audio CD on the external
