Hi!

How do I know if my recorder is dual layer?
I have Sony's Vaio Laptop VGN-FS215B and it says
on the label that it is a double layer.

Is this the same thing? Double or dual?

I'm using DVDXCopy Platinum and "dual layer" option should
be displayed above "compression", right?

I've managed to rip several DVDs, ripping only the movie with DTS track and it's great. The quality of the picture is the same as the original DVD and so is the sound.

Please help.

it is the same thing!

and your software may not reconize your burner?

so use dvd decrypter on iso read then iso write!

but use / load the mds file as this carries the layer break info!

also a newer better burning app is imgburn made by same guy for better dual layer burning, only it cant rip dvd's

I've also started looking for DVD-R DL and I
actually found one store selling it but 5 pcs.
They are bit pricey.

I noticed that many stores are selling only DVD+R DL.
Why?

The plus (+R, +RW, +R DL) format is the newer format for the newest players and the dash (-R, -RW, -R DL) is the old format for the old players and may very well be fading away?
A DVD movie that you buy is a pressed disk in a format DVD-ROM. And that is what all the players, new and old, like the best..
You can bitset, also called Booktyping, the plus (+R) discs so the info on them tells the player that they are DVD-ROM. Thereby fooling the player and making them more compatible with any player, new or old.
You however cannot bitset the dash (-R) discs.
This is why most Old-Timers use the +R verity and Booktype to DVD-ROM .
