Hi Guys
Great forum!.....got a question for a smart cookie!
I have recently made some DVD's and sent them to Canada. I live in Australia and my customers are having problems playing them?....real headache!.....
Alot of my money has been spent shipping DVD's that are not working!
They were burned using DVD Shrink and they are region free encoded.....so I assume there should be no problem with the region code for playing them in Canada?
They are in Pal format but the customers have a DVD player capable of playing NTSC and Pal ... so it should play them?
Is there anything else that could be happening to the DVD's that don't allow them to be played?
I checked the DVD's thoroughly and it played perfectly on my DVD players......I am using the slowest speed for burning and I am using the correct best quality preferred media for my burners.
Hmmm?......I hope someone can help?....any idea?
If you need me to send some more info....glad to..... just tell me how to get it from the DVD.
Also is there another format I can burn it to like VCD?..... if there DVD player plays VCD it might get around some problems?
cheers
Murray

My reccomendations: If you are shipping to canada, burn NTSC. Also, what speed are you burning at? You say the slowest speed, so, 1x? I would recommend a higher speed, maybe 2 or 4x, and use Verbatim, Taiyo Yuden, or another excellent brand media...

I didn't consider booktyping...Are you using +R media? If so, booktyping is a must. As for the conversion, I have no idea, but I'll look around and see what I can find for ya. Never had any experience with TDK, but 2x should work. Also, don't mean to barge into your personal life or whatever, but what is the use for this? There could be a much more efficient method...

From my experiance, TDK's can be CMC MAG knock-offs. This might be your problem.
Everything else sounds fine, I burnt a PAL DVD before and played it here no prob.
WoW! When did we get DVD Players up here? We just got running water last week! j/k

If you are burning DVD for distribution, it's safer to use -R disks because there's a lot of players out there that couldn't play +R disks even after booktype.
Anyone having doubts about TDK media? I have been using this media alongside Verbatim for two years already. In fact both of these branded media are OEM manufactured by Mitsubishi Chemical.

TDK is not highly regarded here, they use CMC Mag to manufacture discs for them, the same a Memorex and Imation. If you got some Mitsi Chems you are lucky, they should be good.

Now that you say you use +r, I'm suprised that even YOUR dvd players could play them. Even higher priority than booktyping, I suggest -R media as well. After that, the speed shouldn't matter much, if any at all. Hope I helped ;)

I also trade & sell alot of videos & DVD's & one thing I've noticed mostly with DVD's is people will buy a DVD say it won't work but when you find the info for their DVD player & you've used good brand disks there should be no reason they won't play, because they're just wanting money back after they've copied the disk for themself.
