While I do not have the answer to this question I have been reading your theads to do just that, find the answer. while I saw many explanations I did not see if anyone mentioned this fact. When I made a DVD in my computer from photos and videos using a DVD+R it played well in my computer and my portable DVD player, BUT no one could play it in thier DVD players hooked up to their TV. After talking to a lady here at work who also dabbles in making DVD's she advised me to use the DVD-R which I did and to all my friends delight, they could show the DVD I made in all thier home DVD players. So while I do not know the difference that is one. But now I have been given a machine to hook up between my computer and my VCR that will allow me to transfer all my old video to my computer to burn a DVD and it is calling for a DVD-Ram thus back to searching for why this is.

Using new software yet again, I do not want to be frustrated by the fact I have the wrong DVD disk in my computer. I do not even know where to buy DVD-Ram disk unless it is the same thing as a DVD-R. Anyone know this?

Thanks for listening.

According to what I know about these formats, it is this:
DVD-R and DVD+R are two different standards, yes I wonder why not only one standard? I don't know any technical differences between them but I do know (or how I experience it) that DVD-R works best (for me it does) for burning out VOB-files and use them on your home DVD-player (that one who is connected to your TV, or is it standalone DVD-player?). That is how I learnt it, it can be wrong, right or it can be corrected. I hope this helped you in some way!

Greetings, Max
