Well, I've been trying to make backups of my Playstation 2 disks, and none have ever worked. [I use Swap-Magic [try] to play them]. I finnally figured out my problem. Appearantly there are supposed to be a few large-sized folders full of information when creating/compiling a new ISO. Unfortunatly for me, every program I have used {DVD-Decrypter, DVDShrink, UltraISO, SmartRipper, Alcohol 120%, ISOBuster, Expert, CD DVD Gen) turn out with the same result: None of them can read the hidden folders on -any- of my PS2 disks.
Here is a screenshot of the files that are seen with all of my programs:

When I create a new ISO, the file always ends up to be about 5Mb. Not nearly enough size to be a real game-iso.
My question: How do I allow me computer to read the hidden files. Or if there are none [pretty sure there are...], what am I doing/seeing wrong?
Edit: Here is a picture of a certain error I get during the CD/DVD Gen part of the process, if this helps anyone understand my problem better.

When you use DVD Decrypter to copy the game to your hard drive, what is the size of the iso that it creates?
Also, you're using Mode>ISO>Read for this process, right?

Just out of curiosity, why are you not just turning around and using the write function with the mds file in DVD Decrypter?

I was under the impression (From the numorous guides around here)that a rip-then-burn approach to copying PS2 DVDs would not work. Are you saying I can just burn it back to a DVD without editing it using ISOBuster/CD DVD gen/ IML to ISO/Etc?

Yep, that's exactly right. You only have to rebuild certain games with Swap Magic, depending on the size. There are also some games that require a patch before they work. You can find that list here: http://www.swapmagicfix.com/.
Otherwise, most of the time, you can just read/write with DVD Decrypter. If the game you are trying to copy isn't listed on the site above, just write it with DVD Decrypter and that should work.
What media are you using for your games? You'll want to make sure that you use good media, like Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim, Sony, Maxell, TDK or Philips. Also, depending on the speed of your DVD's, you'll want to burn them at around half the speed of the disc (ie - if the DVD is 8X, burn it at 4X).
Let me know if this works or not and we can go from there.

Annoyingly enough, 99% of my games are on that list.

Definitly good to know. I wish the guides would have put in that 'useless' bit of information. ^_~

I use Memorex most of the time... Yes, I know, I've read the posts saying "Omg No!11!!! Don't u$e |\/|em0rex!!111!!", but it's all I have right now until payday. I always burn at the minimum speed, seeing as how I have never had any errors when doing it this way.

I will definitly give this a try. I am going to have to create a fix CDs of Fixes for my games, but I'll get back to you when I test it out, unfortunatly, life is beckoning, and I must travel to the outer reaches of town. I'll get back to you on my progress in a few hours/days. Do you have a messenger I can use to contact you with? Msn/Yahoo/Aim? It would be much easier for me to directly contact you than posting on the forums.
And thank you very much for that bit of information. As small as it was, it just answered 20 questions in 4 words: Quote: Yep, that's exactly right.
Thank you my friend. ^_^

I return!
Well, a direct rip-then-burn trial didn't work. (5 games failed).
All were tried with and without the SwapMagicFix disk.
This is slightly aggrivating. ^_^*
Any more suggestions are welcome.

But why arent they showing all the data?
I was shrinking a few games without problem, already dled isos.
I went to try making a multi disc and one of the isos claimed only a few mb, when it was 300mb zipped, 1gb unzipped.
I mounted it in daemontools and everything, it says a few mb. I just find it odd.
Also turns out all the games I wanted to make a multidisc with all shared files with same names..

Seems as though I'm not alone. Perhaps something about our computers prevents us from seeing all of the data?

I checked my game disks on 2 other computers and the result was the same. It only sees about 4 to 5 Megabytes worth of information per disk.
Is there something I'm missing?

It's entirely normal for some games to have hidden files. This is often the case with a certain RPGs (usually Squareenix games), as evidenced by your experience with Kingdom Hearts shown in the pictures. (FFX is yet another example.) However, they backup perfectly fine using any number of programs -- they don't need to be ripped and rebuilt. To be honest, I have no clue whatsoever as to why you?re trying to rip with ISObuster and rebuild with CDVDgen >.> This isn?t the proper way to backup games ? and it should be reserved only for a handful of ?problem games? which won?t work otherwise. In fact, a lot of games (without the hidden file issue) will absolutely refuse to work if you rip and rebuild them.
Unless you?re using the outdated Swap Magic 2.0 set, don?t refer to http://www.swapmagicfix.com . If you?re in a NTSC region, you can try referring to my own compatibility list (for 3.3 and 3.6 sets) here: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/176791 , though I won?t guarantee anything with PAL games. Direct copy-and-burns are the order of the day for PS2 games 95% of the time ? if they?re still not working, it?s time to double-check your setup, probably in this order: 1) media and burning speed; 2) burner and firmware; 3) how fragmented your hard drive is (defrag as necessary). If you really want to investigate the issue thoroughly, you can verify the integrity of your backups with a quality and benchmark test using Nero CDSpeed, which is freeware.

I am sorry to ask this question. Why do most people use DVD Decrypter to back up the games that they own. Why not just do a straight copy of the game using roxio creater suite 9 or something comprable
