Hi - I've read also all the threads about what is the best media to use when burning (TYs, Verbatims, Riteks, etc.) and some of the worse also. I read somewhere on here that discs made by Princo were crap. A friend of mine bought me 100pk spindle for Christmas so he could get the rebate so obviously I can't return them. I burned one successfully and used DVDInfo Pro to find out info about the disc. I have not watched it yet but I did play the first few minutes of the copy without a problem.

My questions: 1) Why are these considered crappy and should I continue to use them? and 2) Anyone currently using these and satisfied with there burn results? They look like they can be printed on also.

Thanks in advance.

Your copy may play with no problem now or in a few weeks from now, but in time, the dye will eventually fade and you'll start to have problems with playback. Brands like Taiyo Yuden and Verbatim use a greater quality of dye on their media, which makes them last a lot longer.

What's the MID code on those starlogic discs?

Princo uses a lot of crappy manufacturers.

1) Some of those standalones-with wear and tear on them- will have a harder time reading the lower quality media. Make sure all your drives play them ok before you burn the entire spindle.

Usually the burn speed has to be reduced/backup target reduced to 4300 mbs/or a combination of both in order for those picky players to be able to view them.

Still the possibility of more errors on those backups. Try re-ripping one of those starlogic backups. If you got 2 dvd drives, try on the fly. That's a good/rigorous test on the quality of your backup.Or if single drive: Re-rip it like an original dvd.Maybe later on down the road you want to make an extra copy of that starlogic dvd and you get a big fat crc error.

2) Unless they were dirt cheap or free,I wouldn't even consider using them because of possibility of playback issues. Longevity another big item.I wouldn't put anything important on them.

Use the PI/PO error scanning test in dvdinfopro. It'll tell you the errors on that backup disc.

Thanks Dakota and Saugmon for the replies.

@saugmon - I'll check that (MID) when I get home and post back. I'll re-rip also and let you know what happens.

@Saugmon - Princo is the MID on the disc. Here's the result of the scan:

Could you explain what it means? In the meantime, I'm gonna try and re-rip.

Thanks.

99.1% score? That's a hell of a good score.
Princo changed their ways? I am stunned!
