If you bought your PSP at Xmas the chances are it has version 2.1 or higher firmware, in which case you cannot downgrade at this stage. People are working on it as far as I can tell.

If you have version 1.51 or 1.52 then you can upgrade to 2.0 and be able to still run homebrews.

Hey,
Just a thought if you use a usb / power cable charger to power your psp from a laptop then you wouldn't need to worry about a power cut.
Just incase you are worried about the very small chance of a powercut whilst you are downgrading. Its how I charge my psp all the time and also to upgrade and downgrade on many many occasions.
No laptop? maybe invest in a generator lol, im sure you wont be that unlucky! damn it now ive cursed you ;o)

Go to www.psp-hacks.com and get the MPH Downgrader and the 2.0 EBOOT from there. This is a well known site and very reliable. Then go to www.psphacking101.com to their downloads section. They release "episodes" in which a different topic is discussed each time. Download Episode V. The guys show first hand how to downgrade and exactly what to expect when you do. I watched that video before I downgraded and got my files from psp-hacks and have had zero problems.
Basically, as long as you use common sense and don't do anything that you are unsure about the chances of bricking are VERY low. Your biggest chance for bricking is if you run files that you get from sources that you are not sure about, like P2P services. Download from the main PSP fan sites and you will be fine.

In the 2.0 to 1.5 firmware guide when it hangs at 99 perceent that surely has to be a corrupt downgrade and it will surely bugger your psp.

As I said before, go to www.psphacking101.com and download the video for Episode V. The guy does the downgrade right in front of the camera and shows you that it works fine. I did it myself, along with MANY other people on this board and others and it works fine. If you are scared of trying it then don't, but don't dispute what everyone here and the guide done by the people who made the downgrader says. It will stick at 99%, but it actually complete and there are no errors.

Your also the one with the worst spelling would it kill you to throw an o in the word youngest? Well anyways your odds are 5% failure rate unless you live in Mexico then its increased to 40% due to there power regulations.
