The information was correct for the most part. DVD Shrink is no longer being updated, so it can't handle the copy protection on some newer discs. DVDFab Decrypter and DVD43, both free, are some good additions to help DVD Shrink keep working. Both are available for download from AD but not for much longer, so don't hesitate and get them while you can. You will also need a burn engine such as Imgburn in order to put your backup onto a blank disc.

DVD Decrypter is in the same boat as DVD Shrink, no longer being updated. But to answer your question, DVD Decrypter is free...on the other hand Nero is usually bundled with either your PC or your burner, otherwise you have to pay for it.

the info is there from Andrew and Locoeng (under ur orig. post) u can use Shrink to rip and DVD Decrypter to burn. Follow the ext. helpful guides. They r step by step. Also use DVD43, this is free but no longer updated, or AnyDVD (21 day free trial) to help u with the latest encryptions.

A list of free programs for backing up DVD's that you own.
1. DVD Decrypter...ripper and burner, still arguably the best around.
2. DVD Shrink......Ripper and transcoder, still arguably the best around.
3. DVD43...copy protection stripper, still being updated but not often.
4. DVDFab Decrypter...a good program to take up where DVD Decrypter left off, but not a burner, and very few options.
5. Imgburn....excellent burner, from the creator of DVD Decrypter.
6. VobBlanker...get rid of unwanted stuff, never used it but hear its good.
You can do a backup of pretty much any movie with the above mentioned programs, and best thing is they are all free and can be downloaded from this site, with the exception of DVD Decrypter.

It is side mounted on the front wheel...downside is it's slow to rip and burn, only about .000001 rpm. Backups will take much longer now...LOL
