I usually rip/decrypt with DVD Decrypter. I noticed it is no longer available as Macrovision owns it now. I then shrink/burn with Shrink/Nero (so hey, not totally off subject of forum). I want to back up the software for all the programs soon to depart Afterdawn due to the new legislation, but I do not have the Decrypter install zip file anymore. First question, is it available anywhere? Second question, can I simply drag and drop my Decrypter program folder to a CDR or DVDR in Windows Explorer to save a copy or would that copy lose all functionality when copied back to a computer? My current computer will only live so long, and I'd hate to lose Decrypter if my CPU crashes. I suppose the same questions go for Shrink (in case the legislation is broader than originally interpreted.)

They still show it here for download:
http://www.doom9.org/index.html?/software2.htm
Scroll down to the "Descrambling / Ripping tools" section.

I don't think it will work to drag and drop the app to a cd to burn. You don't get the important parts that were installed in the registry.
Good luck!

Ok, what about saving the download zip file to a CD or DVD and then copying it back to a HD? Would that still have functionality?

Pariah,
Just take the install file and D/L to desktop and then take that file and save to CD. Just leave everything zipped up until you need it

Pariah,
Whenever you need the file just copy it from the CD to the HD and then unzip it there. I have D/l a few programs and just leave them in the zip file until needed

All the programs on the Doom9 site are called leech.htm and are only 1.79 KB. I don't think that is the actual program, possibly even a virus?

Just did a file search on my HD and found the following on one of the other "Profiles" on my computer:

SetupDVDDecrypter_3.2.2.0.exe

Approximate size is 771 KB

Is this the file I need?

Couple more questions here (sorry I type as I think rather than organizing all my thoughts in advance). I created a desktop file, inside of which I made separate folders for each application, in each of which is the downloaded install file for each application being pulled from Afterdawn. If I drag and drop the desktop file to a CD or DVD, will all the subfolders go with it and will I still retain file functionality?

Also, my new burner didn't work out (for those that remember that nightmare from my earlier posts). I'm planning on going to a computer store soon to buy a new internal DVD burner (possibly two) and extra memory, bigger HD... anyway, I don't know how to install those things so I was going to have them do it. Do they screen HDs for decryption/ripping software? I don't want them deleting, or worse - reporting my software to someone who may not be particularly pleased with me having the software.

The DVDDecrypter file on Doom 9 is 878mb as I just d/l'd it to verify size. I doubt Doom9 has virus infected files as if they did no one would use them and a lot do if they can find the files elsewhere. Just take the whole D/l'd file that to have on the desktop and drag it to the new folder. When you get that folder or folder w/ all of the programs you need then just burn the master folder to the CD as it will have all of the other folder inside it. The repair shops could care less about the burning programs you have on the HD as they will not even see the HD. All they eill do is open the side of the case pull the old burner out and install the new one . Takes about 3-5 minutes and it will probably cost you $40-60.00. You can do this yourself as it really is simple

All I get when I try to download from that site is a leech.htm file with 1.79KB. I don't know why it won't let me see or get a larger file. What file do I need? Will the one I named in my previous post work or are there other files needed? Can you name the files if there are others and I'll recheck my HD for them.

Just d/l the file Here:

http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail/DVD_Decrypter/1011845169/1

or here: http://www.mrbass.org/dvdrip/

it is 878mb and that is all. You need the install file and not the smaller file. You can also Google for DVD Decrypter and find the files that way
