Well it could be that your Nero is too old to recognize it or your firmware is too old to recognize it. That is why I'm suggesting what i just did, it's also why john did what he just did.

my nero is an older version, but I never had problems using the +R discs before using DVDD and then Shrink.

why would that change now that I'm using DVDD before Shrink???

thanks again people

too old to recognize what? would the Nero I'm using be too old to recognize Shrink, is that what you're suggesting?

I've used this current setup for over a year. The only change is DVDD being used before Shrink.

would DVDD need a current version of Nero???

This maybe happening because your drive's firmware maybe out of date, and firmware updates provide greater media support. It could also be caused by Nero and updating to the current version maybe your fix.

burner model # and firmware level please.

You really just have to trust me on this. All you things are too old to recognize your media, you have Nero version 6.3.1.10, that is WAY too old. The people over at Nero aren't making all these updates cause they enjoy it.

As everyone has stated, you need an update on everything after a year a lot of things change including media, software, firmware. Try the updates it should improve your burning.

advils might help, but drugs would probably be better in a case like this.

No that is a Windows driver, use the Nero Info Tool and check and see what your current firmware is.

The latest version is VY08
If you need it(and you should after a year), you can get it here:

thanks for all the help guys.

John, the VY08 link doesn't work.
I used the VY06 version/link and it worked.

I guess I'll take a look later to see if the VY08 site is working???

nevermind. i went to the sony site directly and found the vy08 update. updating now.

ok, so i'll start all over and try DVDD and then Shrink.

I'll let you guys know the outcome.

i'm such a noob!

so I've updated my Nero and Sony burner firmware.

I started from the beginning again:

used DVDD and sent it to file.
used DVD Shrink, found the file.

the burner then asked for a disc (this time it listed DVD+R as an option) and I loaded it.

it immediately failed and here's the log. can anyone decifer what went wrong and how I can correct it?

You are writing too close to teh edge, try to not write any further than 4300MB. In Shrink go to Edit>Preferences>under first tab>scroll down 'till you get to custom>type in 4300 in box beside it.

CMC is one of the most hated manufacturers here at aD. You might not have knowingly picked them up but they get around, they're whores. They have been known to be in Memorex and a few other very well distrubuted brands. try Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim. Sony Fuji and Maxell are OK if they are made in Japan.

You are using Nero's INCD packet writing software. It, like all other packet writing software, sucks. Download Nero's cleantool. This will completly remove Nero from your system, now reinstall w/o INCD this time.

thanks glue eater,
i didn't know where the serial number resided so i just edited out the entire string.

i'll try your tips. yeah, someone bought these discs for me. so they're garbage? I'll remember to buy my own from now on and look for the brands you recommended...

thanks!

edit: i just took a closer look and the DVDs are labeled Memorex! So they are whores!
