Hi All,
I just came across this site today and WOW what a great source of information!!! I was going to purchase one of the stand alone programs to burn DVDs but after browsing this site all day I decided to download a version of DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink (which I already did and they are installed on my compter).

Anyway a little background info on my system:
Dell Inspiron 9100
Windows XP Pro SP2
Pentium 4 3.2GHz
1GB RAM
Internal NEC DVD+RW ND-6100A

Ok so now here come the questions.
1)Do I need any other software to burn DVDs? According to ScubaPete's guide (which I came across today) I don't need anything else.

2)I was thinking of purchasing AnyDVD which is supposed to run in the background and crack any encoding that DVD Decrypter can't correct?

3)I trying ripping a DVD earlier today with DVD Decrypter but it was taking forever and the time estimate was something like 14 hours. Is that the normal time for everyone?? I thought it was supposed to take around 2 hours from start to finish. Is my system the reason for this taking so long? I believe my DVD writer is 4x but that shouldn't cause problems while ripping right???

Well thanks in advance for any help you can provide me. I am sure I will be lurking around here for awhile looking for some great new tips!!!

Hi BigD65
Check If DMA Is Enabled,
Right click my computer
Select properties
Select hardware tab
Select device manager
Double click IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers
Double click both primary and secondary channels advanced settings and check transfer mode,
If it is set to PIO change to DMA and reboot.
Hope this helps.

Set Decrypter to default settings and try again. If you are willing to purchase a standalone program consider Clone DVD2 by Elaborate Bytes. Ripping should take no longer than 1hr(on extremely slow systems) nor longer than 20 minutes on fast systems. If DMA is enabled as dougal58 has said, and Decrypter is set at default values and you are still having problems, post back and we'll find a solution.

Thanks for the responses guys!!!

I checked the DMA setting and on both the Primary and Secondary they are both set to DMA when available. I am going to try again with a different DVD right now and see what happens.

Thanks!

You didn't mention which movie took so long to rip. If it was one of the newer dvds then the excessive time may have been due to the new type encryption. The purchase of AnyDVD will help you in the long run since it is updated very fast to crack the newer encryptions. You won't regret that purchase.

ok guys, new problem. I was able to rip Mr & Mrs Smith but using DVD Decrypter but for some reason I got an error while I was trying to burn it. Then I attemted to start the process again with Super Troopers and I got the following error while ripping:

Any idea on why this is happening? I am going to download the free version of AnyDVD and see if that helps but I am not sure what I am doing wrong.

Also, when I try to set my bookmarking (to burn DVD-ROM) I get the following error and I am unable to:

I order the suggested media (Verbatim DVD+R DL) but for now I am trying to burn on CompUSA DVD+R media just to see if the process works.

Thanks again for any help.
