Hello all....I am new here.
I am brand new to the process of backing up my digital media, but I now have a Media Center PC and an extender (X360) so I am trying to back up all of the movies and CD's I own.
I have found that certain of my dvd's are not playable after using DVD decryptor. I am using IFO mode to a single .vob file. Most DVD's work fine, but I have found 2 so far where the first chapter of the DVD is a black screen. If I begin the recording on the second chapter, it's fine. Am I doing something wrong, or is this some type of encryption that is not being removed?

Thanks. Actually, I have not noticed any such messages from DVD Decrypter.
The movies I have had a problem with so far are The Two Towers and Spiderman 2.
I will try these others, and I don't mind paying a little money. The only problem I have is in format limitations. I need the software to spit out a single .VOB the way DVD Decrypter does in IFO.

Update:
OK...the problem is apparently not with DVD Decrypter...but with Media Player 10? I downloaded Media Player Classic and the first chapter of LOTR Two Towers plays fine...in MP 10 it is a black screen with music in the background.
Now I'm really confused. What's the deal? Why does it play fine on Classic MP but not on 10?

I stay away from WMP7+. I only use the classic version (6.4.xxx) or Media Player Classic (Real alternative codec or Quicktime Alternative Codec).
WMP10 might have some embedded DRM or or something else that messes up playback. Also, the newer versions try to contact Microsoft too much and use too much of a system's resources.
If you have Nero, you can use Nero Showtime to watch DVDs on your PC, but Media Player Classic (alternative codec versions) is just as good. All you have to do is drag and drop the IFO file onto the program or use the "Open DVD" function.

Jaguar...
Will earlier versions of MP work with Media Center? I use an Xbox 360 as an extender, so I need to use Media Center to play video. If I delete MP10, Install MP 6 or so, will Media Center use the earlier version of Media Player?

GOT IT!!!!!!!!!
I installed the latest version of PowerDVD SE, which apparently integrates with Media Player and...voila! Everything works. I assume this means there is a codec or something in PowerDVD Se that MP10 needed.

Yeah, I forgot about those. I rarely use Windows XP, and I do not even know what a Media Center is. I am assuming it has something to do with Windows XP Media edition, but I would not know as I have XP Pro, but use Windows 2000 Pro almost all the time.
BTW, I think that PowerDVD codec is trialware, so you may have to pay $15 or $20 to activate it after 30 days. Glad you figured it out though.
