Is this an external burner hooked up to a USB port or an internal burner?
Have you checked to make sure that DMA is enabled on all your hard drives, CD, and DVD drives? Here's a guide for checking and setting DMA from bbmayo:

It could be that even though your old burner was in fact older, the new burner doesn't have the same specs. Try seeing if it can support faster burning.

I'm not really sure... Try seeing which brand each is and find an updated firmware somewhere on the internet using something like www.google.com
Try finding your DVD burner at a store that is the same make and build and see if it can support faster burning. If it doesn't, then maybe the new DVD burner may be in fact older than the one you have right now.
Get back to me about that.

Sorry, I can't help you out with the drives, but maybe I can help you out with the file.
Are you trying to burn it to a DVD? I remember TMPGEnc may be able to solve your problem, but I don't know how to use it. Sorry, I'm not really a pro when making DVD backups.

I wouldn't really know how to convert what you want exactly. Personally, I wouldn't convert it at all, it just looses more quality, especially if it's .wmv, IMHO. You can try to get more live support from here:

There should be someone there who can help you out at this time. You just have to make a user name.
