I am an extreme noob when it comes to burning and copying DVD's but i just got a burner for x-mas and one of my closest friends is a certified tech so he told me to use dvd shrink 3.2. So i insert the movie i want to copy (What the bleep do we know?) and click open disk, its gets to 94% then and error message pops up saying

DVD shrink encountered and error and connot continue
failed to read file "D:\"
Data Error (cyclic redundency check)

so now what i've check the boards and all i read is clean the disk, your disk is dirty, well this disk is spotless has no mark on it, plays perfectly in a dvd player and on my comp, and it can't be returned.

please help me eliminate this problem so i can copy this DVD

Thanks in advance
-Chris

Whether it can play in a player and whether it will copy are two completly different things. It needs to be a pretty OK disc for it to rip properly. But since you're absolutly sure that it's an OK disc then it might be a bad press. Return it for a different one. Also, is you DMA on?

rip it first with either DVD Decrypter or AnyDVD. then run it through shrink once the files are on your hard drive.

You don't use AnyDVD it just runs in the background stripping protection for you automatically. What is the name of the movie?

A guide to checking your DMA settings, but your certified tech of a closest friend should know this one: http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/checking%20DMA.pdf

DVD Decrypter can be found here: http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/software.htm

If you have another DVD drive, try it for the rip, some drives are better than others at reading flawed discs. You could also take it to your friends house to see if it can be ripped on another machine.

Once you have DVD Decrypter installed set it up as follows, courtesy of scubapete: http://www.dvdplusvideo.com/petesguide9.html

What is not included in ScubaPete's guide is how to let AnyDVD do the stripping for you. Go to Tools, settings, I/O tab, and under the interface preferences select ElbyCDIO->elaborate bytes, then under the general tab untick check for structure protection. This will let AnyDVD strip while DVD Decrypter rips.

And in my signature there is another excellent guide for using DVDdecrypter.

You can also get DVDdecrypter here:

Cheers.
