I am trying to convert a ripped DVD (using DVD Fab) to another file format, i.e. WMV or DIVX or MPEG. I have some average success using Easy DVD Copy however there is no batch facility, its slow and the options are limited. For example the soundtrack defaults to spanish everytime no matter what i do.
So can someone please advise on the best tool for this? the ultimate goal is to share my vidos over Media Centre.
I have a good tool you could use(I use it all the time),its WinAvi video converter by ZJ media. It converts DVD to mpeg,AVI,wmv, etc. It also has a batch convert feature. Give it a try and purchase it if you like it.
Happy New Year!
Fluffster. I'm with you here...doing the same thing. One neat trick is that a .VOB file can just be renamed to .mpg and it will play fine on Media Player (and media center). I done this successfully a several times. The downside? Huge files...uncompressed. The Upside? Beautiful quality (uncompressed :-))).
However, I have found a few movies that seem to not play in MP 10 (and hence Media Center) correctly. One of these is The Two Towers. If I rename the .VOB file to .mpg...chapter one plays fine in MP Classic, but not in MP 10. The rest of the chapters play fine in either player.
aljoe, cheers, will check out WinAvi as you suggest
Hark, yep know what you mean, disk space isnt a problem at the moment but if i keep ripping at the current size it will. Not sure waht the best file type would be for MC is.
I currently use my PC as the server and my XBOX360 as the media centre to watch from. These are connected over a wireless network which seems to handle it very well, however i am sure the performance would be even better with smaller files.
I also am using a 360 as an MCE. My entire setup is wired, so I am having no problem playing back the .VOB files that I've renamed as .mpg, even though they are 6-7 gig files.
On the plus side, my 360 appears to be upconverting the video to 1080i. An unexpected but very nice side benefit.
Now if I can just get those problematic DVD's to work I'll have the ultimate jukebox setup!
What I'm using is AoA DVD Ripper. It has more options and works better than others. It comes with a tutorial as well, which is most helpful!
