For larger DVD-9 movies to single layer blank dvd-5: You'll use DVD Decrypter in file mode. Then you'll use dvd shrink/locate that iso and compress. You'll have compression with this mode.Anything over 4380 mbs will have to be compressed.

For the smaller DVD-5-under 4380 mbs, there is no compression needed so you have Mode ISO. DVD-5 original to DVD-5 blank or DVD-9 original to dl blank. A simple Mode iso read and Mode iso write-locate mds files and burn. No compression for this mode. It's a 1:1 copy. You only need DVD Decrypter only. You can also use this mode if you want to re-rip one of your backups.

Way too much for those sony dash 8x 25 packs at staples. You should be able to get them for well under $10 max when they go on sale. Very good media, but too much $$$$$
Tomorrow should have some good sales at best buy and office depot. Staples have the HP media on sale tomorrow. Their regular- plus and dash should be avoided. HP uses a lot of crappy manufacturers like cmags.

if your buying online use supermedia store.com or meritline.com and Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim is your best bet

Are there any movies that can fit within 4.7gbs because all movies that i have tried to back up are way over. For example, Meet the Fockers has about 8.8gbs.

How long would it take to re-rip one of my backups using the iso mode? Thanks.

Napoleon dynamite and a lot of the generic b movies.

That ISO mode is a lot quicker than going through DVD Shrink.

Approx 5-10 mins to rip to harddrive and 12-15 mins to burn at 4x.Since it's under 4380 mbs-you skip compression and AEC enhancements in DVD Shrink.

I've got a smaller 598mhz celeron pc and when using ISO mode, the time is about the same as my 3300+ Athlon 64.But when both pcs-using DVD Shrink-do that same DVD-5 backup-takes a lot longer for the pc with the lower processor and ram.

It's a very effective mode-quicker- for those smaller DVD-5 originals or your own backups that you want to re-rip for another copy. It's also an easy combination for Dual Layer backups onto Dual layer blank media.

Since it is advised to burn at 4x, what it be appropriate to buy blank dvds that are 4x instead of 16x?

4x are getting harder to find but you still can find them online supermediastore.com or meritline.com buy Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim both have a sale on them this weekend

http://supermediastore.com/taiyo-yuden-4x-dvd-r-media-silver-matt...

thats 55.99 shipped for 200 and its the best media out there and i think meritline is 1 dollar cheaper than supermedia store

keep in mind the 4x media is the same quality as the 8x ,16x etc.
