I know this sounds silly, but whats the difference. I have a dual layer dvd burner, and I noticed most of the media is dvd+r. Will a dvd+r burned movie play on most dvd players? Why the difference?

They differ in the manner in which information is recorded to them. They are different formats. +R have some advantages in that they may be booktyped as DVD-ROM allowing them to be recognized by most standalone players since the players see them as commercial disks. Other than that, there's no real differences. Many of us use the +Rs because of the ability to booktype. At one time, being first on the scene, -R ruled. Not so much anymore. If anything, I'd guess +R has overtaken -R somewhat in popularity. Both are obviously used given the plethora of multiformat burners.

If you want to check the compatibility of a standalone player, goto www.videohelp.com they have a huge database.

Personaly I use -R and have never had a problem yet.

If your burner cannot booktype to DVD-Rom, then as far as compatibility goes, -R will be better. If you can booktype, then +R might be the way to go. But it really doesn't matter much these days since almost all DVD Players can view media burned on either media.
