Panasonic self-test loop.

Hi. New in this forum, so bear with me if I ask dumb questions.

I have a Panasonic DMR-E85H (UK model) that's recently started acting strange.
The machine has been OK for while, but lately, it's started having trouble starting up: it powers up, the "SELF-TEST" appears and the bars count up, but then it goes blank for 10 seconds or so and restarts. Sometimes it does this a dozen times or more before it successfully starts up- and the average is getting longer.

The other day I wanted to dub something off the HDD to DVD; it started, then reset and power-cycled after about 3 seconds of starting dubbing. This seems to be a "hard" fault- it will play DVDs, or HDD,but not dub.

From the general symptoms, it reminds me of a PC with a dodgy PSU.

Any thoughts, experiences?
