I bought some verbatim 16x (50pk) from newegg.com and they burned at 14x speed. A movie burned in 6 mins. Then I bought some 16x (100pk) from the same place and now they can only burn at 4x. I have a PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-109. Firmware version 1.58 (ATA). How can I get my dvd burner to burn at 16x and should I continue to buy 16x dvds?

sure...while i wouldn't recommend burning your 16x media @ 16x, it's your choice...

as to why your pioneer is burning SLOW now, good chance it reverted back to PIO mode...you need to enable DMA to get it back up to speed again...

i have that same drive as you...its my FASTEST burner to date, i get the best quality scans burning @8x on 16x media..that's just ME and my setup, your's might be different~ :)

@kivory666

My new LG GSA 5163D is giving my 109 a run for the "fastest" burns, and it is SO quiet (checked a couple of times to make sure it was working!!!)... It also has some sweet burns/scans on TYG02!!! See my blog.

As to the topic of this post: I buy 16X if it is a better deal than 8X, but I still burn it @ 8X.
