After I downloaded a movie, i burned it on dvd and tried playing it and my dvd player indicated prohibited due to area. I thought it might be region problems but i ran it through anydvd and shows no problem with region. So I used DVD Shrink to mess with files and noticed that it showed files not encrypted. Do the files need to be encrypted to play on my DVD Player and If so how do I go about doing this. Been trying to situate this problem for several days now. Please Help !

have you tried re-authoring a movie you own, like backing it up and trying to play it and see whether or not the problem still exists, otherwise i have no idea...

I play my backups on a lot of different standalones/game consoles/and pc drives. When a drive doesn't like a particular backup-usually the format, then they will give you:
No disc inserted
Dirty disc
Wrong region

Any of these messages are likely due to incompatability of your backups, usually not encryption/no encryption reasons-depending on what you downloaded. The dash format is what these standalones don't like off my benqs. My little brothers sherwood player would give me that wrong region error on any dash backup from any of my dvd burners.

Majority of us set our backups to region free, via DVD Shrink.

On that dvd backup that won't play:

1)Use the DVD-RW drive that burned it,to play it using windvd/powerdvd/or any other dvd playback program. It should play it,and the playback should look near original.

2) Verify on as many different stand alones/game consoles/or pc drives as possible. You need to find out if all those drive have problems,or just a few.

My guess would be your stand alone doesn't care for that format of blank media you are using. It may also be poor quality media, which really give picky stand alones more problems.

What is the brand name/speed rate/and format of those blank discs?
How fast did you burn them?
What is the brand name and model# of your DVD-RW drive?
What exactly are the files you downloaded/your process of trying to backup onto dvd?

Your first post indicates that you downloaded this movie. What format were the files?

There is an excellent guide in my signature for DVDDecrypter and DVDShrink. It will explain their use.

Cheers.

robrobby,
saugmon and 9mmruger1 asked you about the files you d/l'd. Are the files .AVI or are they .VOB,bup, ifo or are they an image file? Most likely the computer can play the files but if they are not .VOB,.bup,or ifo files then the Standalone player will not usually recog. the files. You can in Control Panel> Folder options turn off Hiding the file extensions that are known so that you eill be able to see what the extensions are. I have a feeling you will need to convert the files to mpeg-2 DVD Compliant and the free program below should do that for you. If the files after conversion are too large for a DVD-5 then use DVDShrink to compress the files for you and then you can burn the files from there
