with the new laws being put into effect it seems as though we are all going to be monitored alot closer. government agencies will no doubt be watching in. people will now be speaking in code to each other.lol

do the authorites have the right to view private messages we send to each other? not saying anything illegal will be going on but still you dont want people seeing your private conversations.

Am no law expert but am pretty sure if the agencies want (full) access to this site they will need a warrant only then they will be able to access anything on this site if they suspect anything illegal (Bah to them).

aye aye man

Taken from P.M. rules:

Anyway, system administrators have full rights to read private messages, even that we usually don't do that. This is done because Finnish law that comes into effect in January, 2003 will require administrators of forums to be in legal responsibility of the forum posts. Even private ones. So, no piracy or you will get banned because of your private messages.

-----------------------------------------------------------

I'm guessing the authorities (F.B.I.) don't get to see your PM's unless it's a clue to a Piracy Crackdown or something? If your saying something a bit more... that's a whole different story. So, only people that get to see your PM's are the Admins :), unless the piracy thing goes on.

Why not just move the Servers out of finland to another country that would allow such threads

its already been explained in this article http://www.afterdawn.com/news/archive/7179.cfm

the reason being they would have to relocate every person associated with AD to that country. and im sure there were many that didnt want to relocate for obvious reasons.

if the admins get to read our pms then i would like to go back and delete those nude pictures of me playing volleyball.

I was under the impression from the newsletter explaining about the changes that we could discuss anything we wanted. And I quote:
1# Forums

* No changes. The law states that "organized discussion about breaking copy protections" will be illegal, but as nobody on our forums is planning to develop tools that break copy protections, we don't think it applies. Additionally, as everybody knows, our forums aren't exactly very organized ;-) And moderators aren't our staff members, our admins don't participate in threads discussing about how to break copy protection methods, ever.

So if that is the case why would we be banned if we talk about "piracy"?

One other quick question. I've been a member of Afterdawn for a year now, in fact it is one year ago today that I joined. How come I'm still listed as a newbe?

talking directly about piracy and how to do it on a forum is like the internet equivelant of asking a police man for a lighter to spark up your spliff.

in otherwords its asking for trouble and we dont really want afterdawn shut down over something stupid...

by the way can anybody borrow me a lighter?

lol

I am not actually talking about piracy, just quoting what was written above. In the quote I listed from last weeks newsletter it was about breaking copyprotection for doing actual backups of DVD's. So to my orginal question, will there still be discussion on the forum about "breaking copyprotection"?

from what i understand you cant explain how to bypass copy protection. AD had to delete a bunch of guides and some forums because of this. they also had to get rid of some software also. but i havent given any advice lately so i dont know how tight things are around here. hence this thread.
