Putting together a new machine, and have been hearing that Lite-on and Plextor do great 1:1's. as far as b/ups for games. Anybody care to give their 2 cents on which to get?

From experience, Plextor has done pretty well and Sony/Lite-On (have a Sony dvd-burner) are excellent.
