As far as DL and LightScribe media goes ... Verbatim is the ONLY way to go

It really isn't any more money to get quality

johny24:
What burn program are using using on the DL discs?

Nero and DVD Decrypter are usually the majority of us. Nero6 does have trouble with the layer break, maybe causing your problem.

Dvd decrypter's Mode ISO read and Mode ISO write is pretty good for DL backups. That's what I use. Another option is DVD Decrypter Mode ISO read and IMGburn write. That program is from the same author of DVD Decrypter-but burn engine only.It even looks just like DVD Decrypter in Mode ISO.

Some drives do have trouble with the Memorex Ritek dl's. Tell us the brand name and model # of your DVD-RW drive.

@johny24

my gf just got that burner from her dad.. i got it hooked up.. of course her dad got her memorex..

i know they suck... does that still apply to mid: ricohjpn? there are 16x DVD+R

i know what i should use.. i do have verbs and some ty's.. but just thought i woudl toss that out...

that dvd burner... i did check for latest firmware and it is current.. but it did not booktype this disc. i dont know if its because its memorex or if it just dont do it.. because that would suck..

i did do a google search on this drive... it was stated over at cdfreaks that it is actually a BTC drive.. who or what is that?
i want to make this into a booktype drive.. i am afraid of screwing this up (not my drive). i'm not looking to use cross-flashers or anything on this...

any help.. would be appreciated..

I have some Ritek DVD+R DL's that dont work for me either. DL burners seem to be having difficulties with this particular disc. Try some Verbatim DL's. It should solve your problem.

thanks for the heads up catfreak, i'm sure by now, you have MUCH more DL burns than i do...i'm only up to about 110 or so (give or take like 5) on the Verbatim DLs...went a lil crazy in December, but have since stopped and went back to single layer TYs...

but, as to the topic of this thread...i have had VERY good success with Ritek's own Ridata branded DVD+R DLs...as per my sig, i've also had the pleasure of dealing with MANY other people that HAVE encountered problems with the "re-branded DLs" with the Ritek coding...it seems, as per my conversations with other veterans in the burning game, that the "other" branded DLs, with the RitekD01 coding do NOT FAIR AS WELL as Ritek's own Ridata branded ones...perhaps THAT is the reason why I personally have had NO issues with my Ritek DLs...i ONLY have used and continue to use the Ridata Riteks...

while this observation of mine PROBABLY won't go across the board, it does seem to hold up at least in terms of MY OWN experiences with Ritek made DVD+R DLs...the "other brands" ie. Memorex, Dynex, Fujifilm, and many other brands in Europe that i will never get the chance to try...that use this same RitekD01 coded DL have been problematic for many others i have spoken to at great lengths regarding their DL burns too~ i don't know what is the REAL reason for this decline in quality control or whatevers, but the stock that the other companies buy from Ritek and re-brand as their own to sell in stores to the public; have noticeably been "worse" than Ridata's brand (Ridata is Ritek's own brand of GRADE A media) :)

don't know what else to say about the Memorex RitekD01 coded DLs...seems to be holding true with those i have spoken to that HAVE tried them as well~ :)

but, as catfreak stated, no reason NOT to buy Verbatim DVD+R DLs (made in singapore) as they HAVE and ARE THE BEST for ME too~ :) i would highly recommend the Verbs for anyone looking into getting into the DL backup game~
