@popj5

the same compatibility does NOT hold true with DL discs...it really depends on if your standalone player will even play them...

Ok, the big question is which format to use....
DVD-R DL or DVD+R DL
i would suggest you get the DVD+R DL and booktype them to dvd-rom, you will have a FAR better chance of getting them to play on your standalone over the DVD-R DL...seriously...

The Verbatim DVD+R DLs play in all my stand alones great whether it be my Sony, Denim, or Norcent. The kayer breaks have no problems what so ever and I've been burning at 4x. with 96% plus on Nero and excellent readings on the Plex Tools. Iget a little bit lesser Quality at 2.5x and 6x.The Verbs have out performed all the DLs I've tried.Just my 2 cents Chris

@FROSTIE33,
Please edit out the ALL CAPS in your post. It is against forum rules as that is thought of as SHOUTING here, and in many other forums.
With that out of the way.. I have heard that IMAGE BURN is the best to handle DL discs as it sets the layer break correctly.

I have used DVD Decrypter to do this also, and i believe image burn is the burn engine part of DVD Decrypter but updated. When i used Decrypter, i would do an ISO read/write operation (select the MDS file on a DL burn) and i burned at 2.4x using Verbatim discs. All came out fine. I have also used CloneDVD2 with a DL burn and it worked fine also. Slysoft makes that program, and AnyDVD also. Both are excellent programs.

Nero will do it, but everything has to be just right for it to work in many cases. I have used DVD Shrink also, with it using DVD Decrytper as the burn engine for a DL burn.
