I've been able to download and burn onto dvd+r some movies that were in .avi format. The quality is ok but of course I get no chapters or other features with real dvds. Can the files that would be the equivalence of a dvd ripped to someone's hard drive be downloaded? Also if not what is the best quailty of movies that I can download .avi, mpeg, etc? Like if I wanted to get episodes of family guy and burn them on a dvd what format would be best?

if you d/load an AVI,DivX,XviD or what ever the format then you have to change the format to m-peg 2 or it will not play on a stand alone dvdplayer, the bad thing about downloading an m-peg 2 movie is that there much bigger,a whole dvd ripped d/load can be 5to9gb when the same movie in DivX can be 700mb not quite as good quality but good enough.what i do is d/load them as DivX then use vso DivX to dvd to change the format, there are methods that give better results but there complicated so u should get to that in due course, then use Nero to burn it as a dvd.

asus a8nsli m/board,amd64-3700(sandiego core),2gb400mhz,160gb ide hdd,2*dvddl,nvidia 6800gs 256mb gc,cool blue neon lights in fans and a rather nifty headset LOL.

I've burnt an .AVI that works on both a playstation 2 and xbox. Will they not work on a normal dvd player?

I personally use Nero Vision Express method for those AVI/XviD jobs. You can add a menu, create chapters... Everything that you want really... It does take a bit to get the job done from converting to burning the DVD, but it's by far my favorite tool to convert downloaded gear off the net.

You could use DVD Shrink to fit the DVD9 to a DVD5, or you can use DVD Decrypter to just decrypt the movie to the hard drive, then use DVD Decrypter again to burn the movie to a DVD9.

If you look in this thread, there are several place to get DVD Decrypter from if you haven't got it already http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/1/269104#1520416

good luck with it :)

Hi Paddymail. I couldn't have put it together any better... :)

Yeah Stud, there are exceptions and that's the way to go for those fat ones. :)

But... If you have more than one file on the same movie, when converting to DVD using Nero Vision Express, you might have to merge them in the 'Add Files' screen. You'll loose a bit of quality but you should be able to squeeze them into one DVD5. I done this when i converted last year's Champions League Final (.AVI) into a DVD.
I also used this process when i bought my burner and decided to convert all of my 125 SVCD's to DVD... Gave up after 30 tough... LOL!

Miggs.

If the movie you d/l'd is in .avi format then D/l Avi2DVD: http://www.trustfm.net/divx/SoftwareAvi2Dvd.html . as it will covert the .avi files to mpeg-2 DVD Compliant files. If the files are larger than 4.38 GB then use Shrink on it to compress it and then burn w/ what ever burning program you use. If it is in another format re-post the format and we can tell you how to convert it. If it is already converted and has all of the necessary files then just Shrink it and burn.

hi car.mike thats what i like to hear my friend..ur advice does helped alot.
thanx for ur advice.
most of the movies i'd down loaded are in bin and cue, AVI, and mpeg. and i have no problem using DVD recovery to convert the bin and cue file into AVI mpeg and burn it onto the DVD5 but the problem is i've never try to shrink a movie file before. so what do i have to use to shrink the mpeg moive file? DVDshrink?

Hi Stud.

I understood what you meant, i think you were the one that didn't understand my explanation mate.

To burn a DVD from a disk i use DVD Decrypter, or Clone DVD paired with AnyDVD...

So, what goes in my last post is very valid. For downloaded .AVI files, (or mpeg, or XviD, or DivX or whatever) i just use Vision Express. Just throw the files straight in there, the program will convert and burn it for you. Or instead of burning it onto a DVD straight away, you can save the image on your HDD, then use DVDShrink to shrink it to size then burn it using whatever program you like for the job.

Before all that process, you can cut a piece or maybe get a still picture of the film or even capture a sound clip, for your animated menu with sound..., you can do the chapters yourself, choose the font for the title...

For Cue/Bin file just mount them using Alcohol 120% or Daemon Tools or you can even use Nero's built in virtual drive and treat it as a CD/DVD. The method is exactly the same... But you said you can get them converted to DVD... There a lot of Mix N'Match possible, you just have to find the best possible combination of your preference...

Hope i could have been heplfull.
