A couple of questions:
I have Nero 7 Premium, what I want to do is, edit movies(say, delete a scene from Fantastic 4)but be able to retain the menus. Can I do that? The reason I want to is, movies like enemy at the Gates, which has a totally uneccesary intimate scene, edit the scene out, but not lose the menu. If I can't do it with Nero, what program do I use? Thanks

I don't think Nero will allow you to do that much. You would need some high-end authoring program (maybe DVD Lab-Pro).

Not only would you have to re-author the movie but the menus as well. Otherwise, your chapters will not work.

Seems like quite a project!

Couldn't you just "skip" past the part?

Good luck!

DVD Shrink. It's free and will allow you to do exactly what you are saying.

I have DVD Shrink, the only problem is, if you re-author the disc, it removes the menus. I think so, at least. If you can do it, please let me know.

DVD Shrink wont let you keep menus..Ive been trying all day to figure out if IFO Edit will let me do similar. I dont want to cut out part of movie but the FBI screens and previews but keep movie and special features and at same time save on compression through Shrink so keep the best quality can. Shrink will let you do movie only buy kills keeping menus and special features

Try these tools:

MenuShrink: http://jean.laroche.free.fr/MenuShrink/
Turns motion menus into stills. Check the link to see how much can be saved.

Pgc Edit: http://jean.laroche.free.fr/SkippingStuff0.4.3.1/index.html
Shows the DVD structure.

and

VOB Blanker: http://www.videohelp.com/~jsoto/vobblanker.htm
Use with info from above program to remove parts.

You'll have to use the 3 of them to get your desired results.

I've used Menu Shrink and PgcEdit often. VOB Blanker, I'm still learning. :)

Menu Shrink can free up a bunch of space (for the movie) while keeping the menu structure intact.

PgcEdit doesn't remove the FBI stuff and previews. It edits the IFO so that they are "skipped" (they don't play). If you used the info from it, you could remove them with VOB Blanker. While I haven't tried this myself, it should work.

I'll be trying it tonight or within the next few days and post results.

Let us know if you get to it before I do!

Not to sure I understand the "DVD shrink will not let you keep menu's" reply. All you have to do is either load the disc you want to rip, let it analyse, then edit at your convenience, or reauthor and select from the ripped location folder on your had, or just selec open files and do the same as step one. Then edit as you choose after your movie has been analysed. I personally go for movie only and compress as little as possible, but sometimes do want menu's I've never had a problem editing.

How about posting the steps you used? It might help someone else down the line.

Alright^^^^

If all you want to remove is a chapter, it's real easy:

Download VOB Blanker

Rip your DVD to the HDD

Open VOB Blanker, find the correct title(It will usually be the longest)

Double click on the title, then select the chapter you want to "blank", hit OK, save your movie(in a new location) then voila! Your done. feel free to post specific questions. BTW, I would still like a way to edit chapters and not have to blank the whole thing.

Thanks Derek2k3, but maybe I'm missing something. Besides PRON, why would you want to remove a chapter from your movie? Again, maybe I'm a little jaded, but I like to watch movies as a whole.

Personaly, I would agree. However, say I want to watch Enemy at the Gates with my dad, who is a lot more conservative tha I am. I want to be able to cut the scene out so we can both enjoy it.

^^^^^Agreed.

SPOILERS!!!!!

I have watched all but the last half hour of it. It was getting late, so I turned it off as not to be tired for work. Well, for some strange reason I picked up the case and read the back(Which I usually don't) And the morons who produced it gave away the only twist(that Joseph Fiennes character deserts Vassili) Dang it!!! I am so ticked. Why the heck would they put that on the case? Grrr! Overall, I really am enjoying it. Richard Harris doesn't quite cut it as a German, seeing how he doesnt even have an accent. Oh well, I'm not that picky. Lol......

Best part of the movie man. Finish it tonight, regardless if you've read the box. Nothing like good war flicks in surround.

Got around to trying my post above. Works good. Able to "cut" just a scene without getting rid of the whole chapter. Took some time to get things just right.

So, you cut just part of the chapter, not the whole thing? Anyway I could get you to type up how you did it?

Yes, I cut just a part of a chapter. It took some work but I did manage to do it.

I'll work a a guide but it will not be until this weekend that I'll have the time required.

Meanwhile, I thought of another way. You could use a MGEP editor, cut the desired scene and then re-author the DVD.

@Spider006 If you use PGCEdit, you will get exactly what you want.

Any progress on the guide? Not trying to be buggy, just got back from a big trade show in Chicago and thought I'd see if there was any updates.
