I have just started playing with Bittorrent and I have successfully downloaded a movie. I don't have a dvd-rom (yet) and I would like to make a vcd, the problem is size. Does anyone have any helpful hints as to the way to split or compress it?

Try dvdx. http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_rippers/dvdx.cfm
It supports ripping DVD to a certain size VCD file. You can rip DVD first, and then burn VCD (two CD-R).
