I remeber when CD-R just came out most were blue. and there was a quailty-by-color rule: Blue=Shitty, other color= Mid, all the way to Silver=best.

Now, with DVD-Rs i mostly c purple discs. Does teh quailty-by-color rule still apply?

and oh yeah, comerical DVD-Roms like movies were they high quailty DVD-R to begin with or wat?

yo

First of all, please watch the cursing

All DVD+R and -R media is going to be purple. Look for the advanced metal azo stuff, it's the best. Verbatim, Sony (made in Japan) Fuji (made in Japan) all qualify and are excellent ... DVD rewritable (RW) media is a dark silverish color and Verbatim is, without a doubt the best by far

Commercial DVD discs are not burned .. the centers are pressed and the outer layers are glued together creating a 'sandwich' effect .. For the most part, yes they are excellent quality and you'd have a tough time creating a copy with as high a quality ... However, defects are reasonably common .. especially 'layer-break' problems .. usually occuring at approximently halfway through the disc
