I shrank Wedding Crashers the other day and I decided to make a couple extra copies from the already compressed Shrink output file on the HD. The first copied to a new file and burned with Nero at 8x speed in about 17 minutes (according to the completed Shrink message). The second copied to a new file and burned with Nero at 8x speed, but in about 25 minutes according to the Shrink completed message. Why such a difference for the same file without needing compression and settings the same for the burn? Could my burner just have been tired from its previous burn (these were back to back). Raises the question, how long does a burner need to rest between burns (ie if I have some files on my HD, should I wait awhile between burning them to give the laser/drive time to rest?) Is the burner drive at rest while the computer is compressing a ripped movie - in which case the burner could rest some by alternating a large movie between short ones to extend the time between active burns? My burner is new, so the last thing I want is for it to die an early death from overheating the motor or laser.

Your burner shouldn't need a rest between burns...possibly a lack of ram caused the slower second copy. Free up some resources after the first burn, just because you specified to burn at 8X doesn't mean that is the speed at which you are burning.

I've never let my burner rest between burns. I don't think that it is necessary as Locoeng stated. You will have time fluxuations, it's the nature of the game.

I did predator 2 yesterday evening on my NEC 3550a using AnyDVD and CloneDVD2. Ripped it with the LG4163b and burned it on the NEC. The whole process took 18 minutes. NEC booktyped to DVD-ROM on Yuden media. Gave a quality score of 97.1.

Not to bad.
