First I would like to say thanks to everyone who helped me on my other thread. Being new at this DVD shrinking & all other program technology puts me at a gread disadvantage.
I would like to go over my steps from start to where I get stuck and see what others might have to add.
1) From the desktop (Win XP Sp2) I open AnyDvd and let it run in the background with the approperate setting selected.
2) Insert DVD into DVD R/RW DL drive.
3) Cancel the screen that askes me what I want to do with the dvd.
4) Open DVD Shrink
5) Begin checking settings and shrinking the DVD down to under 4.3 (having set the maximum size to 4300 in the preferences also).
Once DVD Shrink has completed all actions I open my Sonic DVD writer program (still not sure about this program as I may switch to Nero or some other eventually).
6) Within Sonic select the Movie tab and select make DVD.
7) Point my sonic software to the approperate folder created by DVD Shrink.
7a) If I select only the file types that Sonic asks for I get two (2) files with undefined names. Both files add up to over 135% of the blank DVD R media.
7b) If I select all file types within the DVD Shrink folder Sonic says there is a problem and some of the files were not brought over into the project.
That is where I am having trouble. Perhaps another program should be used somewhere in this chain. Or, I do not have a setting right somewhere. I would really appreciate any feedback form everyone no matter how trivial the answer may sound to everyone else.

Have you read the post by johnl123 in your other thread? Anyway as I am unfamiliar with Roxio I cannot comment on where you are going wrong. However an easier solution for you would be to download Imgburn ( http://www.imgburn.com/ ), which can be called up by DVD Shrink automatically by DVD Shrink when it done encoding. This will reduce the guess work for you when trying to figure out which file to burn from.

Quote: Where are you getting that from within my question? Is that another name of one of the programs I am using?
1. Where am I getting what?
2. What program are you talking about? I gave you a link to Imgburn which is a completely different program from the two (DVD Shrink and Roxio) which you cited as using in your post.
When you download Imgburn and run the setup.exe, it will give you the option to use it with DVD Shrink...if that is in fact what you wish to do.

I think that LOCOENG is referring to your Sonic software which is not Roxio. but his point is correct. Use something else.
ImgBurn is excellent and easy to use with Shrink.
A couple of points....
Get Decrypter first:
http://www.dvdplusvideo.com/DVDdecrypter.zip
unzip and install.
Get ImgBurn and install:
http://www.dvdplusvideo.com/SetupImgBurn_1.1.0.0.exe
Note:
Shrink can open Decrypter to perform the burn automatically for you:
Follow jmet's guide to have Shrink automatically open ImgBurn instead of Decrypter:
http://www.applevalleyagent.com/cms2/joke.php?id=95
ImgBurn is a supported and updated version of Decrypter's burn engine so that is why you should use it to burn with rather than Decrypter.
This will be much simpler than trying to get Sonic to work correctly.

fasfrank,
Thanks for your help. I will try those things you suggested later in the afternoon. A couple of questions though..
1) With ImgBurn and Decrypter will I still need AnyDVD running in the background?
2) I think that Decrypter is an alternative to AnyDVD but Decrypter is no longer updated. It that correct?

Nowadays it is a good idea to have a program that will handle the latest and greatest protections that Sony, Macrovision, etc are throwing at us. AnyDVD fits the bill.
(If you do not plan on burning new movies then no, you don't need it.)
Decrypter is really not needed to decrypt with once AnyDVD is installed. Shrink will see every DVD as unencrypted.
Many people have Decrypter linked with Shrink to do the burn. ImgBurn, being the updated version of Decrypter's burn engine, is the way to go. Mainly because it is up to date and has support from it's maker, Lightning_UK at http://www.imgburn.com/ .
You do need to follow an installation procedure to get Shrink to open ImgBurn instead of Decrypter automatically though. You need to have Decrypter installed to do this procedure unless you like editing your registry!
All that being said, you could get DVDFab Decrypter which is a very simple free ripper that will handle the newest protections. I have it just because I need to be familiar with the programs we talk about here. I've used it twice just to see how it works. I find it to be slow. It is free though, which really makes it a popular application. With the demise of DVD Decrypter, DVDIdle was kind enough to come up with this free program so my hat is off to them.
It is up to you to set up your copying procedure the way you want it. There are a variety of ways to do this and everyone has there own specific concerns. For example if you have a huge flat screen TV then you may be more concerned with quality. The programs you use would reflect that. For me, I don't burn every movie that comes out and only watch them occasionally so a simple setup works fine. I do spend a lot of time here so I've got a pretty good collection of software so I can speak from experence in my replies.

Good grief...I was talking about Sonic, not Roxio. All of the posts are starting to run together. Where has scubapete been hiding?

LOCOENG,
Your telling me? I have only been here 2 days and my brain has already been fried several times over. I knew that once I purchased my new computer I would be going through all of thsi so i decided it to it while I was out of school (College) for two weeks on break.
Is it too much to ask for just to make one DVD exactly like the origional? I'm probably just making this way too hard and will finally tonight with the help of these post realize just that!

HEhehehehe,
It has been a bit hectic around lately but ya gotta love it. LOCOENG you have been working your butt off along with several others. Geez I only get involved with four or five but you must have a couple of dozen going. Yeehaw!
@ZosoAir:
Please hang in there, it actually works and it usually does take a couple of programs at a minimum to do the job. There is always X-Copy, I guess( Is that still available?). I really hope that you simply get Shrink and Decrypter, use an older movie and some good media and burn a couple. Once you see how easy it really is and how well it works you can add on a couple of programs to get past the ARccOS, etc. After you do your first three or four movies you can basically get set up and complete a burn in about 45 minutes, start to finish.
BTW ZosoAir, Cool nick!
Cheers,
Frank
Edit: I'm actually starting to get worried about Pete. I've sent him a couple of emails but have not gotten any response back. He usually is pretty good about getting back to me. I hope he is OK. As near as I can tell he has not been to any of his normal forums or other places in about three weeks. Which is a long time for him.

I like a challenge...actually I'm a work and it is very slow, so I've got nothing better to do at the moment.
@ZoSoAir
The only way you are going to get a 1:1 copy is to use DL media which is can get very expensive seeing as though SL media costs about 1/4 the price. Please do as fasfrank and I suggest and forget about Sonic (yea I got it right).
Download Imgburn and DVD Decrypter and use it in conjunction with the other programs you already have (DVD Shrink and AnyDVD), you could even throw DVDFab Decrypter into the mix for a nice fat arsenal of free programs (with the exception of AnyDVD of course).
Read the guides by scubapete in fasfranks sig at his website, they are easy follow and sometimes comical to read.
Edit: Yeah, I usually see him pop in here at least once or twice a month, but can't recall seeing any posts since before Thanksgiving...I'm with you, hope all is well.
