The 8x MIJ Maxell discs are MXL/Hitachi while the 16x MIT probably are Ricohjpn .. Maxell 8x MIT are usually Ritek

In this instance, the MIJ are just a tick better than the Ricohjpn .. It is a win-win situation My BenQ DW1640 likes the MIJ more while my stand alone LiteOn LVW5005 recorders like the Ricohjpn more ...

the MXL/Hitaxhi discs smell the best though

How can I find out the maxell 8x DVD+R is MIJ?

Does any one know benq 1640 work well with maxell 8x DVD+R and 16x DVD+R?
Which one work better for Benq 1640?

Maxell discs' country of origin is identified right next to the bar code on the outer label ... My BenQ DW1640 gets the best scans using fast media burned at fast speeds .. The very best scans are achieved using 16x Verbatim media whilr the 8x Fuji/Yuden discs fare very well, also ... The 16x Maxell discs work well and the 8x are ok, but the PI errors are kinda high ...

Does any one have Benq 1640 and use the RiDATA 16x DVD+R? How do they go? Does it work at 16x speed with a positive result? I ordered one from Newegg.com. If the quality is bad, I can refuse to accept the shippment without penalty charge, according to newegg staff. That's why I need to find out from here.

Where can I find a thread that list what DVD media works well, and at what speed, with Benq 1640? I know memorex DVD+R DL does not.

How can I evaulate the quality of the disk by QSuite. I know there is QSCAN and jus told me what is the best speed fot the disk.

In other thread, I have seen ppl post a successful rate of write. How did they get that value? If this is digital backup or copy. Should the image 100% equal to have a successful backup? This is especially important for data backup. For movie, it does not matter. But, nice to have when I have 1:1 copy.

Is Maxell DVD-R 8X good quality? I just got some & did 1st burn but it gets "stuck" & doesn't work properly. I suspect it's the media because I rarely have problems burning w/ this same software AND I don't think the VIDEO_TS folder has any problems.

I don't see MIJ or MIT anywhere. It does have MDM after a long number & says made in Japan???

@chilwill

They are Taiyo Yuden and indeed the best in my opinion. I especially like the white surface for the sharpies.

neodave, more questions for ya and any others. How do you know that it is Taiyo Yuden? Is it just common knowledge or is there a certain way to find this type of info out? Also, 25 pk for $9. Seems okay. Clear out the store or what? Thanks in advance and also for your earlier quick reply.

The Made in Japan says that the Sonys are Taiyo Yuden. Some have said the Taiwan made are as well but I don't agree. But they are both good regardless. Go for the Made in Japan though. I am speaking for the +R media in particular. I don't think I've seen any -R Sony that were made in Japan. Not lately anyway.

kivory666, I did just that. Was able to get several MIJ's. One thing that sucked tho...of the first pack I bought, the third or fourth one I burned to got a little messed up at the end. Viewing that disk that is. Some pixels (i guess thats what they were) appeared. I hope it isnt a sign of things to come. Was just recently "had" with two seperate batches of Verbatim's(+R and-R). You read about bad batches, I never thought it was allll of them. 5 out of the first 7 on the +R's. aaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhh Anyway, would you say the 25 Sony MIJ's for $9 is worth loading up on? As in every single package I can get my hands on and not have to worry about media for a long, long time. :) Thanks in advance and sorry this is forever.

Went to K-mart at lunch today. Bought 8 of the 25packs DVD+R Sony's all MIJ. In fact they only had one MIT and it was 4x rated. Maybe I got lucky I don't know. Not as good as the $14.99 for 50packs they'll be at BestBuy in the next week or two but heck I was already there.

well, that price is decent, but if it's possible to wait for the Sony sales for 50-pack @ $14.99, it's an even better price...but, if the 25-packs for $9 is all that is available to you at this time, i suppose it's worth it...depends on YOU personally if you feel saving a few bucks is worth it in the long run if you are willing to wait...

the key here is "patience"...and also the possibility of the 50-packs all being MIT, if that is the case, you'll be kicking urself in the head by "waiting for the sales"...and will be out MANY Taiyo Yudens when you COULD have gotten them, albeit a slightly higher price at the time~ :)

decisions, decisions...it's up to you buddy~

50 pack spindle of Verbatim 16X DVD+R (and DVD-R)

I just found out about this out. Verbatim 50 packs on sale at officemax right now. Theres a $25 instant rebate and if you have the brown bag that came in the sunday paper they take an extra 15% off any item that you can fit in the bag. On the recipt it comes out to 8.99 for one 50 pack.

I just picked up 2 of the dvd+r's today. If you don't have the bag you can still get them for 14.99.

Office Max provides brown bag. Ask for it, otherwise, they don't give u.

It is 15% off the list price.

I just bought 4 pack verbatim 16x DVD+R (50dvds). $9 for each pack.

The verbatim 2.4x DVD+R DL (10 dvds) is $15. I bought 4 packs too.

Brown bag 15% off is ended today.

Both of them are made in Taiwan. What is verbatim's quality compare with Taiyo Yuden MCC. Where can I find them?

@limingy

i think you have a few facts distorted at this point...where have you found Taiyo Yuden MCC discs??
Quote:

Taiyo Yuden has their OWN standards of quality control and TYs are NOT MCC coded...MCC = Mitsubishi Chemical Corp, which is in turn, what Verbatim uses on THEIR media, not Taiyo Yuden...they BOTH are using the AZO dye, so you can say that the quality is GOOD on BOTH Verbatim and Taiyo Yuden discs...

Taiyo Yuden discs have the TYG01/TYG02/TYG03 coding on the DVD-R format (4x,8x,16x) and the YUDEN000T01/YUDEN000T02/YUDEN000T03 in the DVD+R format (4x,8x,16x)...there is NO such instance of "MCC" coding on Taiyo Yuden media...

actually, ur wrong there again...hehehe...

CMC MAG do NOT make Taiyo Yuden discs...i think you got it confused with Verbatim~ :)

Verbatim has used CMC MAG as their manufacturer in the past, and even now, there have been reports of people getting CMC MAG produced discs under the Verbatim label *namely the "pearl whites" and a few reports from people buying Verbatims w/ CMC MAG manufacturer from sam's club here in the U.S. ...while it's NOT widespread...i can't give you an "honest" answer as to HOW to completely avoid CMC MAG discs under the Verbatim label/brand...i guess there will always be SOME chance, however minute, to get CmC Mags under Verbatim...

i would just either "take my chances" with Verbatim and hope you get the MCC coded ones...these are MOSTLY "made in taiwan"...which "made in singapore" being old stock for the single layer discs and almost ALL 99% of the DVD+R DL discs under the Verbatim name...

bottom line:

Verbatim "made in taiwan"= MOST OF THE TIME will be MCC coded single layer

Verbatim "made in singapore" = DVD+R DL country of origin and these are GREAT discs, might i even say, THE BEST on the market at this point in terms of dual layer discs~ :)

hope that clarifies a bit for ya~
