hi, i use Philips 8x DVD+R's and I've never had any problems. They always burned at 8 when the software(DVD Decrypter) is set to max. I have a Plextor 712A. Recently i burned a RW disk at 2.4, and now when I try to burn regular dvd+r's, the speed only burns at 2.4 even though the software is still set to max. I tried other disks and other software,even reloading the firmware for plextor and it's still stuck at 2.4---any ideas?

Have you closd the program down and re-opened again, as it may just be stuck on the last job it was set for and needs to be re-opened to see the difference in the disc.
Failing that, just do a reboot on the PC.

yes, i uninstalled the software and reinstalled. it still shows set to max burn rate. the only thing i can think of that's changed is a windows update...

Does it automatically recognize the change in media or do you have to select it in plextools?

it automatically recognized it in dvd decryptor when i used the dvd rw the first time, and yes it sees that i'm using a 8x DVD+R now. i don't use plextools...i used another burning software and got the same 2.4 burn when it was 8x last week...
