Ok, I'm new at this (started today). I've downloaded and installed DVDx 2.3 and am attempting make and MPEG from a DVD. I'm getting a warning that ASPI is not available. I can still start the process once I've found the correct IFO file, but only about the first 6 minutes of the movie will be converted and saved, the software says it is complete. However, when I find the correct IFO file, a display tells me the length is about an hour and a half.

So, I've downloaded the adaptec aspi driver file install program. However, I have not been able to find anything that tells me (in laymens terms) exaclty what these drivers are going to do. I'm a bit leary about installing system components without having a little knowledge. Can someone assist in explaining it? (I'm assuming from the warning message and what I've read that it has something to do with managing very large files..?).

I just got this machine, it's 3.2 with 1GB ram and 256MB video. It seems that this should be more than adequate for what I'm attempting?

Thanks for any help

OK, I just found the explanation on another post in this site.

I still have a question: The explanation talks about these drivers being used in CD ripping as well. I've been doing that. Shouldn't this computer, only a few weeks old, with Windows XP have all the drivers I need?

Bottom line: If I start adding drivers, how am going to get burned? Or is this very common, very safe, very reliable?

I had a similar problem. I ended up installing 5 additional aspi drivers with no problems occuring. I would suggest creating a restore point before installing.
