You should already have that file in you pss down folder... if you read the "readme"text file that comes with it it tells you that you may need to put "activeskin.ocx" into your windows32 folder.

If you haven't got it,Pm me with your e-mail address and I'll send you the file, head the PM "activeskin.ocx"

[edit] you may also need the mscomct2.ocx file, but it needs to be included in the registry.. google for that file and you should find what you need.. that's how I did it, but even after doing all that I still can't get gt4 to work and I know I did everything correctly.

I've already told you via PM, but here it is again, incase you haven't read it yet.

You need to "right click" on ACTIVESKIN.OCX and "extract" then browse to your hard drive or C: drive or (if D is your main hard drive, then (D:\windows\system32\ <---- now place/put ACTIVESKIN.OCX here). DON'T Copy or paste into system32 folder, it won't work. You'll need to EXTRACT and put it in system folder via the "extracting steps". Hope this clears things up for you now. If you ran into problem, then let me know and I'll see what I can do to help you out alright.

@paddymail

You should give my GRAN TURISMO guide a try, it should work 100%. I've done 3 backups already using the method I provided and all of my backups works (including all Modes, except the LAN Mode because I don't have any Network Adapter & HD compatible). In addition, I've been playing/testing all of my backups and all of them worked flawlessly.

I know you're from the UK and Sonix stated in his tutorial that when Down Sampling it should be 50%, but I found out that 55% works the best for me (US version), so give it a try.

Hey, it won't hurt to give it a shot you know, here http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/5/275350

Yeah, I tried it already alkohol... it still doesn;t get past the "polyphony" screen, same as sonix guide... and I know I'm doing everything by the book, so don't know what's up with that.. wasted a damn good TY disc on that too, oh well never mind - I'll just risk playing the original, no big deal I guess as I don't let me nephews etc near my originals anyway.. I just don't like being beaten and not being able to copy a game :(

Good guide though... :)

@paddymail

Did you used the GT4 DVD5 Ripper Tool v1.02 and PSS Down Sampling v1.01 that I provided in the link? or did you used the old ripper kit and Down Sampling v1.00? I didn't used the first ripper tool and down sample v1.00 (those don't work for me). Honestly, it works for me with the new GT4 DVD5 Ripper Tool v1.02 & Down sample v1.01, except I've to rebuild it with Gnie's IML2ISO and rip the ISO with DVD Decrypter to begin with. That's the only thing I changed besides Sonix's guide. I also found out that Apache 2 didn't do a very good job at rebuilding the final ISO, so that's why I used my regular method and go with Gnie's IML2ISO and it works.

Were you having any problems at all when down sample and or when you rebuild with Sonix Ripper Tool v1.02? I had trouble with v1.01 which was the original Sonix DVD5 Ripper Tool, which later I found out that v1.02 works better along with Down Sampling v1.01 at 55% shrinking.

Man, I can't even believe that my 11 yr old son is killing me with Racing on GT4, LOL. Like I said, GRAN TURISMO 4 is the only car Racing game that I could never get bored of playing, it is worth 2 or 3 or even 4 backups if you have to (I have 3 backups now). Even NFS: MOST WANTED, MC3 DUB EDITION can not compare to GT4. I'm bored with those new games already.

Anyways, give it one last shot whenever you're ready man.

Yep, I used all the right software/ripper kits etc... No problems with downsampling etc as I already had the mscomct2 and activeskin files installed correctly... it's just one of those things I guess where you do everything right and it won't work for some reason, LOL.
I tried the sonix method a few times months ago and then tried one more time a couple of weeks ago... then tried your version a few days ago, but still no dice. I might have a go at deleting and relinking video files instead of downsampling sometime soon.. I think that could be why it's holding up at the polyphony screen, worth a shot anyway.

Thanks for the suggestions anyway :)

Yeah, isn't it weird how sometimes non-drivers can whip your ass at racing games, LOL... my nephews used to do that too.. not anymore though ;) I got good!!!!! LOL

I gave up backing up my original NTSC copy of GT4 to DVD5, so I got it elsewhere and it works fine. I have a MODBO modchip that says MATRIX 1.38 when I boot a game. I have two buddies who can't get to the polyphony screen with MODBO chips using the same GT4 copy that's fine for me. Their chips don't say MATRIX 1.38 on startup though. They say MODBO 2.1. So could this be a modchip firmware issue? If a GT4 save gave is on the memory card it'll say it's auto loading but then you get a blank screen... Pffft!

paddymail, do you or anyone else have the Sonix GRAN TURISMO 4 DVD5 Ripper v1.02???

I searched everywhere and can only find 1.01. With it I get different results for gt4.

Where can I get it?

Thanks heaps for anyone who knows (the links on the gt4 page have all expired).

Hi guys,
I'm back here again after getting the DVD5 Ripper Tool v1.02 and I've got the same error message as guncivic.
Except I get the error with MSCOMCT2.OCX . I did what it said in the text file and copied that file from the program's directory into windows/system32 .
Did anyone else get around this problem?

Thanks again in advance,
Tom

P.S. I didn't know there were 2 guides (alkohol's and sonix's). Sonix's is http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/5/275350 , right?
Where can I find the other one?

You need to register the file from START > Run before it'll work right...

regsvr32 \windows\system32\MSCOMCT2.OCX

Copy & Paste the above command into the Run box, and click on OK

Sorry, my mistake. The error message I posted is correct, but the file that comes with PSSdown is ACTIVESKIN.OCX (which is what I copied into system32). I'll see if I can find MSCOMCT2.OCX anywhere (on my PC or the web).
Where did you guys get MSCOMCT2.OCX from?

Thanks heaps.
