I have a purchased copy of Clone DVD and have yet to use it. It reads 40 yr old virgin fine, but when insert a blank DVD and click the popup window instructing me to insert a click insert blank dvd (clicking ok) my whole computer freezes including my mouse.

I am running windows XP with the latest version of anydvd. Norton 2005 is disabled, and my pc is spyware and adware free, and the only DVD viewing program I have is windows media player and power dvd.

Perhaps you can uninstall CloneDVD and re-install it, including rebooting. This sometimes corrects a "bad" install.

Hey Fellas, CloneDVD 2 is The Best I've seen, I have used DVD Shrink, DVD Decrypter, etc. I HAVE Nero 6 Ultra. And I purchased AnyDVD too, long ago I got both CloneDVD 2 & AnyDVD. klouseau, you must have something "weird" going on there buddy. I know that Norton is a resource hungry program, even when disabled it is using memory. How much RAM do you have? You have XP, go to system tools > system information & see how much physical memory you have FREE. You should also make sure your optical drive has not went into PIO mode.MUST be DMA. Make sure your hard drive is defragmented too. If you post more specific information we here may be able to help. Consider this too. You say you purchased CloneDVD 2. Slysoft DOES offer tech support. go to their site & report your problem & they will email you with an answer. Hopefully you can find out like MANY here that CloneDVD 2 with AnyDVD is The Best Combo going. Look around the forum here & you'll see just how many agree.
Edit: What bilbo65 said, try uninstall & re-install CloneDVD 2 & AnyDVD. Personally I would uninstall & re-install both. Since you bought them, you'll have the license keys for re-install.

I reinstalled Clone DVD 2 and now it reads fine, and starts the write process, and stops half way through the write to say a write error has occured, probably from bad media.

I am using Ritek, and have never had trouble with them b4.

@klouseau, You might try different media. But you're using most of your RAM. You might see if different media fixes it, but most likely you'll ned to close some programs down to free up more RAM, or install more RAM if you can. Memory is pretty inexpensive these days. I have 1 Gig and never have any trouble. Since I don't know wny more, this is all I have to suggest. What CPU are you running?

Glad you got it going! CloneDVD 2 is simply the best! It may be you just got some bad discs in a batch. It happens. Personally I prefer Verbatim, or Taiyo Yuden made Sony (MIJ) or Made in Japan Fuji. I never have any problems. Still owuldn't hurt for you to up your RAM to 1 Gig when you can. It helps a lot with Windows XP when burning DVDs.

I'm with kivory666 and would like to know the burner involved. When did you do your last firmware update? Those Riteks should have burned without issue.

Cheers.

Somthing is sapping your memory. Make sure that you turn off all unneeded programs from running in the background. Disconnect from the internet and turn off antivirus and any spyware blockers as they are resource hogs.

I would highly recommend a mem upgrade to at least a gig. I know that this is an expense, but the improvement in performance will warrant it.

IMHO

Cheers.

@Klouseau

That ain't right mate... Here, try this site:

http://www.answersthatwork.com/Tasklist_pages/tasklist.htm

This will tell you what is what in your task list.

BTW i just got an upgrade from 512Mb to 1Gb RAM because of this new found hobby. The difference when burning is really... Just try it!

To burn original films all i use is CloneDVD/AnyDVD... That combo is perfect...

;)

Yea mate, don't mess with those.

In that link i gave you, it tell's you deatailed info on what exactly each and every process does. Before i got my upgrade, i was always running 39/40 processes and i rarely went below 200k. 141k is under par mate, you do need an upgrade or close half of your machine down...
IMHO RAM is the highest priority when burning DVD's...

OK boys...yes I am female...mate ;)

I just bought a gig of memory. It's always been on my list to do since I bought this pc...just procrastinated. At leas the price has dropped dramatically for ddr ram....I just paid $50 for a 1 gig stick of pc2700 ddr ram :)

That'll bump me up to 1.5 gigs of ram. Should do the trick, eh?

@klouseau, Looks like you're OK with the RAM! 1.5 gigs should be enough! Still, close down Norton & disconnect from the "Net" disconnect BEFORE you close Norton down. Disable your Screensaver too. Good Advice, Get some better media. Try Verbatims. About ALL Burners like them. They are VERY GOOD! You're a Female Huh? Cool! Always Glad to Help a Lady! Well, I am always glad to help anyone really! You really got a good deal on that RAM Lady! Nice going!
