Most likely the media quality.Stopping at 92%,that's getting near the outer edge of the disc. Some of the poor quality media may have uneven dye on that outer edge.A blank dvd will state 4.7 gbs.Actually about 4.38 gbs is max, after all the translations of the byte.

We'll need some info:

What is the brand name of those +8x blank discs?
What's your burner model#?
What programs are you using in the dvd backup process?
Explain what and how you are backing them up.

A Nero burn log would also help. If you post it,please edit out your serial number starting like: 1A23-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx

That log will give us: Media MID code/burner model#/firmware version/target size/ transfer mode and a lot of other info.

@ncd72 -

ok....i'm logging out soon as i'm watching 'Surface' on ITV2, then Dukes of Hazzard...

as to the discs sound like you struck lucky with the datawrites this time - MCC003, very nice..

if it's Nero 6 - let's have LAST section of your Nero log which lives in c:\program files\ahead\nero\nerohistory.log but DO NOT post your serial number which usually begins with '1A21' or similar.

You can differentiate sections via this section divider "====== *** Nero-Burning Rom, History File *** ======"

if it's Nero 7 - let's have LAST section of your Nero log which lives in C:\Program Files\Nero\Nero 7\Core\NeroHistory but DO NOT post your serial number which usually begins with '5C80' or similar.

You can differentiate sections via this section divider "====== *** Nero-Burning Rom, History File *** ======"

you pasted the entire logfile, no biggie it meant your serial number snuck in. i've edit the post to removed the serial number and also to leave only one burn log entry..

Nero version: 6.3.0.6 (Nero Express)
- Nero's too old, latest 6.x version is 6.6.0.18, download "update package 1" from here - http://ww2.nero.com/enu/nero-up.php
See comment further down re InCD also..

- InCD is Nero's horrid 'packet writing software', uninstall Nero then uninstall completely via Nero's Clean Tools, then reinstall Nero (6.6.0.18) WITHOUT installing InCD

Another one of the burn log entries had this -
Quote:
Recorder: SONY DVD RW DW-Q58A
Medium not present

Insert empty disc to write to.
(Medium in drive: unknown. Medium required by compilation: DVD+R/RW, DVD-R/RW, DVD+R9 Dual Layer.)
- i guess the burners' firmware couldn't recognise the other discs

How are you viewing those backups when they give you that issue?

Pc drive, using the same DVD-RW that burned it?

Stand alone player?

A different dvd-rom drive on the pc?

It'll help us narrow down the issue. Your sony drive should be able to play it's own backups and they should look near perfect.

90% of those issues you describe are due to stand alone players. They will have more trouble with backups as apposed to original dvds.If a stand alone gives you: Pixellation/freezing/jumping/skipping/or no disc inserted error-Then they are telling you they don't like something about your backup. They can even have a lot of wear and tear on them, making them weaker. Sometimes a lens cleaning is in order, but I consider that a last resort.

Let us know what drive/s show those issues.Try to verify them on other stand alones/game consoles/or pc drives to help narrow down the problem. The more drives, the better.Just look at the general vicinity when those issues show up.
