I have used Shrink with dvd43 running in the background to encode the Wedding Crasher: I have tried to burn using nero with 3 different kinds of dvd-r (admittedly not the best kind) and nothing works. I keep getting a Burn process failed and invalid track info message. I saved the log and will cut and paste here to see if anyone has any suggestions.
thanks

According to the log there are two things you should do, then try it again. Nero is upto date so you're ok there.

1) Your burner's firmware is out of date:
CD-ROM: <BENQ DVD DC DQ60 >Version: MRDC - HA 0 TA 1 - 6.6.0.18

it's at version MRDC, update to version MREC here...
http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_result.php?kaj=1&isces

2) Bring your file size down to 4300MB in Shrink, change output to custom and enter 4300. According to the log:

" 9:00:07 AM #9 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 270
Last possible write address on media: 2298495 (510:46.45, 4489MB)
Last address to be written: 2201119 (489:08.19, 4299MB) "

The file size was 4489MB and the burn process stopped/failed at 4299MB, cutting the file size down to 4300 will help.

The burn process started at 2x and stopped at 2x, if your setting it for 2x it's a bit slow(if you don't mind waiting so long it's ok), try increasing it to 4x ans see what happens.

dougga22,
Make sure that you update the burner w/ the proper firmware as if you do it incorrectly your burner could be toast. Now that said it really is easy but if you are not sure have a friend do it for you.

Try using better balnk media as Princo's really are bad blank media. Try Verbatim, Taiyo Yuden, Maxell(made in Japan)or Fuji(Made in Japan)

Thanks for the suggestions. I did have my shrink set at custom 4300 a few days ago. Do I have to do this each time I burn?

I know I have cheap media so I will buy some better media later today and then try to burn at 4x.

I downloaded the firmware mrec.zip but I am now afraid to install as I don't want my burner to become toast. I just bought the computer two weeks ago. Any suggestions on what steps I should take and what to avoid would be helpful. I am not an advanced user getting into registry etc. but do have a fair knowledge of computers.
thanks

@dougga22

Once you have set the target size in shrink it will remember your preferences and you will not have to set it again.

Firmware updates are quite easy. Extract from the zip file, double click on it and it will self install. They always post a warning, i think to cover their a$$. It scares people, but it is real easy.
