I was just wondering. I want to get the most out of my blank media. What size should i put in the preferences dialog box. Some prgrams have 4.7gigs and others want it in MB's. I guess, I would like to copy close to the edge as possible. I usually put 4.7 gigs. But if it's in MB's then what would i type ? thanks

You should not copy to close to the edge because they may cause skips and such when playing the DVD. I would recommend 4300 GB, you should have a buffer that is why I would not recommend 4700 GB. This is what I have been recommend to due over the past 4 days.

first of all its not 4300 GB.its 4300 MB.so you should type 4300 MB.you said you use to type 4.7GB but a 4.7GB dvd wont have that much space as disc labels claim.1GB is actually 1024Mb.Its not advisable typping more than 4.3GB because depending on the quality of the disc you will probably hav errors at the end bit.

If you want to get the most out of your media and movie experience, here are a few guidelines:
1. Use quality media such as Verbatim, Taiyo Yuden or Sony, Fuji, Maxell(made in Japan).
2. Do not burn at more than 4X.
3. Do not burn too close to the edge of the disc. As already stated set your target size to 4300, this will prevent you from getting into the "unreliable" area of the disc.
4. Do not use paper labels.
5. Make sure that you firmware is current.
6. Booktype +R media to DVD-ROM if your burner supports bitsetting.

Im sorry.I made a mistake on my previous post and just realized now.1MB is 1024Kb.so 1GB is not 1024MB as i posted.Im sorry for the misunderstanding.

whats the advantage for booktyping? what does it do. Also, how come no one like memorex. For me they are actually pretty good. Some dvd software pre-sets to DVD-5. How many MB's is that really coping. Is that the same as 4300mb. thanks

how do you know if your burner can booktype? I got philips 8631. Can you booktype it with CloneDVD?

@rihgt682 - Your burner is capable of booktyping, but since CloneDVD isn't a burning program, it cannot booktype. You'll have to use something like Nero or DVD Decrypter. 9mmruger1 posted links to some good guides.

You have to booktype when you burn your disk.
going back to the size on disk, actually it is 4464MB. Very few media can handle burning all the way to the edges, that is the reason why you should set your target size to less than that. People around here recommend, for a good reson 4300MB.

I see you've found the DVD Decrypter booktype function. We have the model # now lets have the firmware version of your drive and we'll see what we can do about the booktyping. Go to Tools, Drive, Capablities...should be something like bd10, cd21, gd30 etc. If you are lucky, you've got a rebadged BenQ drive, which is capable of booktyping.

I'm not sure about booktyping with clone DVD, but DVD Decrypter will if that drive is capable. I don't see that FW version anywhere on RPC1, go to tools, drive, check for firmware and see what it comes up with.

I told you how you can update your firmware using DVD Decrypter, it is up to you whether or not you make the update. I just wanted your firmware version so I could determine what kind of drive you had, so we could see if you can booktype.
Do you have Nero? You can booktype in Nero via the high compatability mode.
Edit: I didnt see the firmware version for you drive when I searched for it so I couldn't determine the manufacturer, that is why I suggested you try using the check for firmware through DVD Decrypter.
