Hi Gang:
Just ran across a new movie backup problem. Just prior to encoding, I got a message stating that this movie cannot be compressed. I was in DVD Shrink at the time. I have never ran across this problem before? The name of the movie is "Dark Water". It is a relatively new
Movie. How can I backup this movie? Any suggestions? Ronnies

I got 'Invalid Nav structure' error using DVD Shrink with AnyDVD running in the background...Opened Nero Recode and it backed up like a dream. Go figure. The latest version of AnyDVD is supposed to fix the DVD Shrink errors though.

hello Locoeng - I downloaded "AnyDVD" about two months ago and I got the blue screen on my computer? I don't think that it's compatible with something I have on my computer? I have "InterVideo WinDVD", I use that on my "Plextor" unit for VHS transfer, so can't get rid of that. Is the latest update on "AnyDVD" more user friendly and compatible with most computers using various programs in backups? Thanks to all for the kind and responsive reply. ronnies

Try ripping via alkohols method/guide found here with a different movie but it should work: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/282892

Or you could try DVDFab Decrypter then DVD Shrink. You can get the latest version of DVDFab decrypter here: http://dvdidle.com/free.htm
It would probably be easier for you to try the DVDFab first and if that fails, try alkohols guide.

Hi Locoeng, I'm going to try all of your suggestions. How does "DvdFab" decrypter differ from "DvdDecrypter"? Is ther an update for "Dvddecrypter" or "Dvd ShrinK"? It seems that other people have had trouble backing up the movie "Dark Waters"?

DVDFab decrypter works just like DVD Decrypter in file mode. It rips the movie to your HDD and puts it in a VIDEO_TS folder for use with DVD Shrink.

Here is a guide on its use: http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/backup%20with%20DVDFABDecrypter,S...

If you already have DVDFab decrypter make sure you have the current version, for the update to be successful you must first remove any previous version from your PC, then install the new version.

has anyone one this thread ever hread of vobblanker? i see noone advicing it. run the files you already ripped with decrypter or fabdecrypter thru it and you'll be a ble to compress and burn.

http://jsoto.posunplugged.com/vobblanker.htm

Nero Recode2 or Shrink using deep analysis and AEC/ fabdecrypter or anydvd running in the background/ IMGBurn to burn/main movie only mode= perfect.

Thanks Locoeng for your advice and all other contributers. I did download "DvdFab" and tried it on the movie "Yes". I used it with "Dvd Shrink" and I got the "encountered an error message cannot continue" message - thought I had it - not so??? Looked like it was going pretty good, got the encoding time remaining to 2 min. but that was it... Thanks anyway ronnies

@ronnies

You have to uninstall all previous versions of DVDFab for the new update to take...uninstall any occurance of DVDFab from your PC, reinstall and try again.

Hello Locoeng: I never had a prior version of "DvdFab", it is the very first time that I downloaded this program. So, I don't have any "Updates" that I know of, unless this version that I just downloaded already has an update that has to be done?
I trust this is what you are talking about? Ronnies

Hello ScubaBud: I have downloaded "Anydvd" and have used it on one of my Backups. I got the blue screen, which I believe means that "AnyDvd" is not compatible with something on my computer. I have "WinDvd" on my computer and use it with my Plextor unit for vhs to dvd transfer. I believe that the incompatibility is with those programs - not sure - just think so... ronnies

stumbled on this one to see what we can do to get ronnies up and running with his movies :)

as for Dark Water i used just DVD Shrink on it's lonesome. however other ppl have different problems and results and something that also works is DVDFab Decrypter. this just rips the entire DVD to hard disc then you point DVD Shrink (for instance) at the folder that DVDFab created..
