Hi, which ones should i be using to back up my films onto.. i have used dvd-R and when i play it on another PC the files are not recognised... any surgestions

Not all things are equal. When it comes to playing dvd backups,there's a huge difference between the quality of DVD-RW drives.
Dvd-rw drives/stand alones/dvd-rom drives/and game consoles can varry at reading our backup dvds. Usually it's because of the format/low quality-crap media/or burn speed.There's 30+ other things,but those 3 I listed are the first ones to eliminate. Burn program/paper labels/multi-tasking/fragmented hd/spyware-malware/burned too fast/burned too slow/ are some more.
For that no disc inserted error on the dash format,try the plus format-and make sure it is high quality media.

Brand name/speed rate of your dash blank media
Programs you are using
Your backup process-what you are trying to backup and how.
I've got 6 pc burners and I know what each one does on my stand alones. Because of the constant no disc inserted errors-using taiyo yuden media,3 quality booktyping capable benqs took care of that issue.Some of these drives are stronger/weaker. I've got 3 benqs just to burn only/1 DVD-RW used to read/and 1 hp 640c lightscribe just to read and use of lightscribe feature.One of those piss poor DVD-RW drives even booktyped,but the dash format out performed the booktyped backups off of it.That drive is sitting in a box,collecting mold.
Me and a buddy pass around backups and I have trouble ripping his,but he has no trouble ripping mine.I've got 5 different drives to read,so one of them will recognize his NEC 2510 dash-ty-g01-backups. It's hard to re-rip a backup if your drive doesn't recognize it-same for playing it.
Booktyping the plus format to dvd-rom,from a quality drive will usually take care of that no disc error. The answers to those questions will also help. You may be able to booktype or maybe not.
Hi mate, the DVD drive i have is a double layer 16x multi format DVD +/- RW drive.
I have been using the Nero 7 i think it is to burn the disks.. The files are backups of films shrunk using DVD Shrink and converted to MP4 so i can play them on the PSP.
I started off burning at 8x but didnt have a lot of success with this so changed to 4x which has been better.. Also i found that i had a higher sucess rate with the DVD+R dvd's.. i have been using data write dvd's, maybe i should go for a more well known make.
