have encoded with tmpgenc, and burned with nero before many times with no problems, but haven't done it in a while.

encoded an xvid file to svcd the other night,,, checked the mpg prior to burning, video is fine, but i have no audio. Gspot is showing the file as follows:

the original avi file plays video and audio fine on pc, but the encoded mpg has no audio?

Video
4cc = xvid name = xvid
(codec is installed)

Audio Codec:
0x0055(MP3) ID'd as MPEG-1 Layer 3
(3 compatible codecs installed)

Bitrate = 128 kb/s (64/ch, stereo) VBR LAME3.90.
48000hz

Video Path=(S) --> AVI Splitter --> ffdshow MPEG-4 Video Decoder --> (R)
Audio Path=(S) --> AVI Splitter --> ffdshow Audio Decoder --> (R)

thought maybe this 0x0055(MP3) ID'd as MPEG-1 Layer 3, was maybe something like an AC3 Dolby file,,, so i tried the same procedure that i have done with an AC3 file. i extracted the audio with avi to wav, then loaded the video and audio into tmpgenc, and encoded again,,,(at least this used ta work for me with an AC3 file) have video, but no audio again.

it's been a while since i have done this, so i might be missing/forgeting something in the encoding process, as far as not getting any audio on the mpg. as stated the originnal avi file plays fine on pc,,, but i have no audio after encoding.

i have searched the forum for similiar threads, but there are a bunch, and they are all similiar but different than what i'm trying to figure out.

if anyone could offer any help, i sure would appreciate it.

maybe i have the "Audio Settings" in tmpgenc wrong????
Stream type is showing mpeg-1 audio layer 2
48000
stereo, 128 kbits

thanx

p.s.
(i talked my son thru, encoding an exact similiar file,, he has sound on the mpg, but no video)

I think your Problem is that the audio in the AVI file is VBR MP3 format which is not supported in TMPGEnc or most any encoders...

To Solve this Problem simply Run the AVI file through this Tool that you can download here:

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=J7HNW11I

This Tool will Decompress the audio in your AVI file so that TMPGEnc can read it.....

thanx for your help, think i figured it out,,,

attempted to re-encode the movie again, re-checked my settings in TMPGEnc,, and the only setting i changed was the audio which was set at 48000 hz,,,, changed it to 44100 hZ.

began to re-encode it and stopped the encoding after about 15 minutes and check the file thru windows media player,, i had video and sound.

whats the diffeence between 48000hz and 44100hz? (besides no sound at 48000 hz)

The SVCD Standard Doesn"t Support 48000hz audio only 44100hz audio...Most DVD Players should still play the audio at 48000hz because that it the audio used on DVD"s and your PC should be able to Play both....

If you used one of the SVCD templates then the audio would have been set to 44100hz.....
