Ok here is my problem. Whenever I try to burn DVD's I keep getting this error either through Nero or dvd devryptor that a bus, or drive reset occured while trying to burn. I have done everything in my power to fix this. have reinstalled the software, am currently burning with Taiyo Yuden value discs, changed DVD burner from NEC-3500 to 3540, changed power supply to 420 watt thermaltake, and changed the IDE cord, anmd installed a case fan thinking it was getting too hot. After all these things it still gives me this I/O error saying a reset occured. Please help me and tell me what you think the problem is.

My specs are as follows:
Gateway 500SE
Windows XP Home w/SP2
Pentium 4 1.8ghz
768mb pc2100 ram
NEC 3540 DVD burner
if anymore specs are needed please ask

Could be a hardeware comflict (IRQ) which 2 devices are trying to use the same IRQ

have you recently installed any programs or hardeware before this problem came up?

Are you running the DVD burrner off its own IDE cable? or is it piggybacked with another Burrner or HardDrive. If it is on an IDE cable with another CD/DVD Drive or Hard Drive try placing it on the IDE cable by itself.

Could be software conflict.

@xxp,

I really don't know what you're asking and your post is unclear. What is the exact error message you're getting? Post that here and maybe someone can give you a more in depth answer but here's my 2cents :-)

Why don't you try doing a system restore to the last time you know it was working?? The most you'd have to do is reinstall any applications you installed after that point.

Hope this helps.

Hmmm..I can't figure this one out and I'm not too sure but it could be a problem with file itself. Try ripping the dvd with DVDFab Decrpyter, then re-shrink it. Also you might want to try Clone DVD2 and AnyDVD. Those two apps work very well together. They both have trials periods and you can download them at http://www.slysoft.com .

Sorry I can't be of more help. Maybe someone else will jump in on this thread and offer more assistance.

Please post back the resolution to your issue when you get back up and running because I'm sure someone will probably encounter the same problem you're having.

Good luck and don't hesitate to ask for help. That's what we're here for :-)

Have you tried the system restore option I suggested earlier?

I have no idea when the last time my computer worked right was. And I think it was before October which is the farthest I can go back on System Restore. Its not like this problem all of a sudden showed up. I have been dealing with this for a while now. Abotu half a year or more. I am thinking about doing a complete sytem format and reinstalling windows but if I can avoid that than by all means want to because I have alot of stuff on my comp that will be really hard to get back.

Your burrner could be going bad as well.

Iv had a burrner that wouldnt burn DVD's anymore but would read the DVD's and burn CD's. It just wouldnt burn DVD's anymore.

I recently had to replace my Lite-on. It would burn perfect DVD's but when I place the DVD's in my Drive after the burn Windows wont recognize them. But they will play perfect on my standalone or even when I play them on PowerDVD they will play. Somtimes when I made the backup windows would recgnize it and sometimes it wouldnt. So it was a hit and miss on a good burn.

When I say windows wouldnt recognize it I mean windows wouldnt let me browse the DVD. Kept saying drive not ready. But it would recognize other backup DVD's and orignal DVD's I placed in it.

I uninstalled reinstaled the burrner, even updated firmware nothing fixed the problem. So I bought a new 1 and have no trouble at all with the burrner.

So just because the DVD burrner will read DVD's or CD's or even burn CD's dosent mean that it is still functional when it comes to Burrning DVD's.

@xcp,

I guess you have a few options. 1) If you can burn CDs, back up your most important data/programs then do a system restore back to 6 mths ago since you said that's probably the last time it worked properly. 2) Instead of doing a clean install, you can do a 'repair install'. this will keep all your data and programs in tact while refreshing your system files. I do suggest if you decide to do this, disconnect your DVD burner ide and power cables. 3) As Larrylje says, it could be your drive going bad so you might need to buy a new one. There's fairly cheap now. I just bought a Sony DL for $40. Also you could do a test to see if it's the drive. If you know someone with a drive you could borrow, you could put their's in your system and see if the problem still occurs.
